Today Student Journalism Awards
The Today Student Journalism Awards have been announced, at an awards ceremony in the BBC’s Radio Theatre.
The winner of the Today Programme Student Journalist of the Year - as shortlisted by Today Editor Sarah Sands, Kamal Ahmed Editorial Director BBC; Katie Lloyd Development Director BBC and Daniell Morrisey Head of Talent BBC:
HAMZAH ABBAS, the University of York
As part of the award, Hamzah will be offered a position on the BBC News Journalism Trainee Scheme as the Today Programme News Trainee, a role that will involve placements on the Today Programme and at various departments within BBC News.
SARAH SANDS, editor of The Today Programme and chair of the judges “Hamzah shows a remarkable understanding of and commitment to the power of the news story. He wants to expose wrongs and change things for the better and crucially knows how to do it through journalism”
