  1. Farewell

Sigh. Another horribly frustrating day. Thanks for joining all the same.

Come back tomorrow from 09:45 BST for live coverage of England against West Indies at Southampton.

The forecast is looking better but still some rain around. Fingers crossed.

See you then. For now, farewell.

  2. Post update

Virat Kohli on Sunday's game against Pakistan: "We’re playing some good cricket so we're not too worried about where we stand. Having two wins gives you that extra confidence.

"We will have a couple of practice sessions so we know where we are in terms of mindset and skill. It’s also about going out and having game time. We are quite ready to take that game on."

On coping with the pressure of such a big game: "As soon you as enter the field it’s calm and relaxed.

"The frenzy around it is a bit intimidating for the guys doing it for the first time but for us it’s about being professional as always, do the basics right and look to get a result your way.

"It’s an opportunity to create excitement. It’s been competitive for years and it’s a marquee event all over the world. It’s an honour to be part of a big game and brings the best out in me."

  3. Post update

Virat Kohli on Shikhar Dhawan’s fitness:"He’s going to be a plaster for a couple of weeks and after that we will assess him. Hopefully he will heal quickly so he will be available for the final group games and the semi-finals.

"We will keep him here and hopefully that kind of positive mindset will help the injury heal."

  4. Post update

India captain Virat Kohli: "The outfield was not suitable for play, especially as it’s so early in the tournament you don’t want an injury at this stage. It’s unfortunate, you cannot control the weather but a point isn’t bad at this stage given we already have two wins."

  5. Post update

India are next in action in a massive match against Pakistan at Old Trafford on Sunday.

New Zealand next face South Africa at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

  6. Post update

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "Obviously you turn up hoping to compete for two points but we've been here for four days and not seen any sun so it's no surprise.

"They will get some sun at some point but not on our trip here.

"With training indoors you just try and get what you need out of it. It's not ideal but having a bit of time off is also important in these competitions.

"We have a break now, which is interesting at this point in the tournament but it's a good chance for guys to freshen up and look forward to our next challenge.

"South Africa are a very good side and every time we play them it's extremely competitive. This is a good opportunity for us to get away, refresh and have a couple of training sessions before that challenge."

  7. Post update

England's women are also currently off the field due to rain in their third and final ODI against West Indies at Chelmsford.

The forecast is more promising there though - head here for live text updates and commentary on that match.

There is also play ongoing in three County Championship fixtures - head here for live text updates and commentary on those games.

  8. Post update

This is now the fourth no result of this World Cup so far.

It means India go above England into third on five points from three games.

New Zealand stay top but now lead outright on points with seven from four games, one point ahead of Australia.

World Cup table as it stands after 18 of 45 matches
  9. BreakingMatch abandoned

The announcement no one wanted to hear comes over the PA - India against New Zealand has been abandoned.

The ground staff would need two hours in the current conditions and without any rain to get the pitch ready for play.

But the latest the match could start is 16:25 BST so that rules out getting the minimum required 20 overs per side in.

Both sides will remain unbeaten and take a point apiece from this washout.

  10. Post update

    Jonathan Agnew

    BBC cricket correspondent

The umpires had a very cursory conversation of about five seconds with the grounstaff there.

This game is about to be abandoned.

  11. Post update

The umpires are coming out again.

    But their umbrellas are up.

    It's raining.

    This could be terminal.

  12. Next inspection at 15:00 BST

    Inspection begets inspection begets inspection.

    Next one in 15 minutes.

  13. Post update

The umpires have just been out for the latest pitch inspection.

It has stopped raining but the outfield must still be sodden in places. There is no chance it's going to dry in these damp conditions.

  14. Where we're at

More frustration in this year's Cricket World Cup as the start of India versus New Zealand at Trent Bridge has been delayed by rain and a wet outfield.

Both teams are hoping to extend their 100% winning record in the competition, but no play has been possible yet.

Shortly before the last scheduled pitch inspection at 13:30 BST, the rain started to get heavier and the forecast is not promising.

An abandonment would be the fourth in this World Cup.

The previous highest number of abandoned games in a World Cup was two, in 1992 and 2003.

  15. Post update

We'll pause this live text again though until we have any further news to bring you.

  16. England women v West Indies women

There is rain around in Chelmsford too where England's women are taking on West Indies in the third and final one-day international.

They have at least managed to do the toss though, which is more than we can say for here at Trent Bridge.

West Indies have won it and will bowl first, looking for a consolation win, with England holding an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Follow live text updates of that match here.

  17. Post update

Oh dear. The rain is getting heavier and those hardy souls who had stayed in their seats are rushing for cover now.

  18. Post update

    Well it's inspection time...

But the covers are coming back on and it's raining.

    Sigh.

  19. Post update

Sigh. So no good news to bring you there.

Check back at about 13:30 BST for the next update.
