FA Cup first round draw: Eighth-tier Chichester City receive bye to second round

Non-league Chichester City - the lowest ranked club in the FA Cup - received a bye to the second round following Bury's removal from the competition.

Chichester, seventh in the eighth-tier Isthmian League South East Division, were the final club left in the pot at the end of Monday's first-round draw and receive £36,000 in prize money.

National League Harrogate Town will host two-time winners Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, Maldon & Tiptree, who also play in the eighth-tier, are at Leyton Orient.

Hayes & Yeading, who defeated Poole Town 3-2 in a replay, will host League One Oxford United.

National League South teams Chippenham Town and Dulwich Hamlet host League Two Northampton Town and Carlisle United respectively.

Nine non-league teams are guaranteed a place in the next round, where they will be one win away from a potential tie with a Premier League club in the third round.

Chichester entered this season's FA Cup at the extra preliminary round stage.

Having played their first tie in the competition on 10 August, they have earned £82,390 in prize money from their run.

    At least it means that there are 9 non league teams guaranteed a place in the 2nd round. Great for non league football.

    I lived and worked there for 20 years and am chuffed for Chichester and wish them luck with their continuance through the Cup. I know the big PL clubs sneer at the competition due to the poor financial rewards for progressing through it compared to positional prize money in the PL, but the 36 grand Chichester are getting is massive to them. Best of luck guys and to the other non-league teams too.

    How much do you bet Salford v Burton is on the BBC? If they win then back on in 2nd round and then switch to Man Utd for 3rd round

    @15. The draw wasn't in Chichester, it was at Maldon & Tiptree. Occluded isn't the word you think it is. And of course it wasn't a fix, people win the lottery every week at odds of 20 million to one, this was just a 1 in 80 shot. Other than that, top post.

    Utter nonsense. Haringey and Yeovil jointly agreed to walk off due to the nature and severity of the abuse. Both teams were very aware of it, found it disgraceful and didn't wish to be associated with it.

    2 points:

    1/ Bury should have been allowed to play in the FA Cup this year as entry is apparently based on where you finished league-wise last season.

    2/ How about we start having the teams in the Championship join in at round 2? Making this one small change would allow another 24 non league clubs to enter R1 - this would push more money down the pyramid.

    Spread the prize money out!
