Joe Root on what this win might mean for the Ashes: "The atmosphere here was electric. You could tell there was a huge amount of England support and the Hollies Stand was nice and rowdy towards the end. It gives you a good feel for what it could be like in a few weeks' time for the first Ashes Test.

"Australia will not read too much into this game but it is nice to have put in a performance like that, regardless of the format, to show this side have no fears about what Australia can bring.

"There is a huge amount of respect because Australia are a great side across all formats. But there is no element of fear there like there was in the past."

More from Joe Root on TMS: "The message at the interval was to be busy. Look to continue playing in the same manner as we have done. The guys did just that.

"The first three or four overs was very intelligent batting. They absorbed a bit of pressure, saw that swing was going to be a little bit of a threat and the way they waited until the bowlers came into their areas to hurt them was very smart.

"Once we got off to a start we were able to put more pressure on them and then felt always ahead in the game."

More from Joe Root on TMS: "Early wickets fill you with a lot of confidence. You know the more you take early, the more perfect their middle order is going to have to play to get a substantial score to put you under pressure.

"They played very well for a period there - Carey and Smith were intelligent but then when we did get that wicket, the way we went bang, bang it stalled them. A fantastic team performance with the ball and we took our chances.

"We felt very confident at the interval."

More from Jofra Archer: "When the boys are batting like that it's hard not to want to just watch.

"The World Cup has gone pretty alright for me. The team has played really well - we haven't had smooth sailing in the whole tournament but we are peaking at the right time and should be able to take the momentum with us all the way through to Sunday.

"I keep checking on my injury and I keep finding a way through. Hopefully it will all be worth it on Sunday.

"I'm potentially ready yeah to play all summer. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen and then I'll get some much-needed rest as I've been going all year. Either way I have something to look forward to.

"I'm just going to travel, train and then play so there isn't much on the agenda before Sunday."

Good news for the England players - they have "definitely earned a beer tonight", says the skipper.

England batsman Joe Root: "I'm still pinching myself. It's an amazing feeling - from the second ball of the day we put Australia under a lot of pressure. We bowled exceptionally well in those first 10 overs and then we were clinical with the bat.

"That 100 partnership to start things off is irreplaceable - when those two boys play in that manner, it makes it very difficult for any side.

"You don't get these opportunities very often. Naturally there are some nerves but there would be in their dressing room as well. You try and strip it back to executing your lengths and making it difficult for them - if they take risks then you are in the game.

"The way Woakes and Archer have played in the last three games with the new ball has been outstanding. To create chances and to restrict them to under 30 in two of the last three games has been phenomenal."

Eoin Morgan says Jonny Bairstow - who pulled up with an injury while batting - is fine. "It's just a niggle."

England fast bowler Jofra Archer on TMS: "It's up there with one of the best days in my career but then Sunday might be the best so I'll save it for then.

"The boys were really determined this morning, especially after what happened at Lord's. We didn't play half the level of our ability there and everyone wanted to put that behind us and do it better today.

"I think that's the first time I've ever got a wicket with my first ball. It just makes me feel like today was the day to do something special and I'm glad I got to contribute to a win.

"We would've batted if Morgs had won the toss but I love to bowl first. I want to get my work done and then chill. Rash can back me up on that."

More from Eoin Morgan: "I'm extremely happy for Chris Woakes. He is a cool customer who goes about his business exceptionally well. Today was his day. Him and Jofra up front were outstanding. It was one of the stand-out performance in the first 10 overs for us over the last four years.

"Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow are imposing at the top of the order. They are in the form of their lives and if they get in, they take advantage of it more often than not. They set the tone for how the whole group want to play.

"This final is a huge opportunity for us. Looking back to where we were in 2015 compared to now it's such a dramatic improvement and everyone in the dressing room deserves a huge amount of credit. Making the most of it would be brilliant but getting to the final alone is awesome."

England captain Eoin Morgan: "I am absolutely delighted. I would like to thank the fans today - we've had unbelievable support and Edgbaston has always been very kind to us.

"Having beaten India in the group stages here we would've come here with similar confidence. The way we have taken momentum from the last two group games into the semi-finals is very important.

"We set the tone early and when we got on top we made Australia pay."

Nicola: I would like to let everybody know now that I will not be available for anything on Sunday as I will be sat in front of three screens all day watching the Cricket World Cup final, Wimbledon final and British Grand Prix F1.

Australia captain Aaron Finch: "We were totally outplayed today. The way they set the tone with the ball in those first 10 overs was a huge part in the game.

"You expect the new ball to seam a bit on any surface but they bowled a great length, hitting the stumps a lot.

"There are still a lot of positives to take out of the campaign and from the last few months - we've come a long way from where we were last year in ODI cricket in this country.

"You always want to win the trophy but there have been a lot of positives. A lot of hard work has gone in from a lot of people. I'm proud of how the group has progressed but this still hurts.

"We tried to change it up as much as we could but Roy and Bairstow are so dynamic when they are on top. We didn't execute as well as we could and got hurt by a very good England team.

"You have to beat everyone in any conditions so can't read too much into losing to South Africa so that we had to play England here. We didn't have the luck with a couple of injuries at the end of the tournament but that's not an excuse - it wasn't to be."
