Gonzalo Higuain has scored three goals in eight Premier League appearances for Chelsea

Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain says it is his "intention" to be at Stamford Bridge next season.

The Argentina international, 31, joined the Blues on loan until the end of the season from Italian giants Juventus in January.

Last week, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri said Higuain - who has scored three goals in eight Premier League appearances - needs "time to improve".

"I want to do as well as I can so I can be here for next season," Higuain said.

"I came here and I wanted to stay. It's a good city, you live well and you can be relaxed but also enjoy yourself - so my intention is to stay here."

Higuain scored twice on his home debut against Huddersfield in February, but has not netted since the Blues' 2-1 win over Fulham in March.

Chelsea have the option to buy him for 36m euros (£31.3m), or to extend his loan deal until June 2020 for 18m euros (£15.6m).

"I'm happy here," Higuain told the Chelsea website.external-link "It's always nice to try a new league and it's my first taste of the Premier League.

"Obviously it's a period where I'm adapting but I'm hoping that, although I've only got a short time, I can finish well.

"The best thing we can do is qualify for the Champions League and hopefully win the Europa League too."

Chelsea climbed to third in the Premier League by beating West Ham 2-0 on Monday and travel Slavia Prague for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on Thursday (20:00).

    Not convinced at all by higuain, we have tammy on loan at villa who i believe could do as good a job if not better. With the transfer ban coming up this is a huge chance to put our faith in our many extremely talented youngsters, not old underperforming big names who may sell a few shirts to our sadly highly influential demographic of foreign fans.

    Higuain is (/was) a proven world class striker. He's not injury prone, and wants to stay at Chelsea. Why would fans want to get rid of him, with a transfer ban looming? Players like Tammy Abraham would do well to train alongside him. It's a win/win.

    Higuian is not the problem at Chelsea, the problem is quite simply the supply to him. He hardly gets a sniff when the likes of Kovacic or Jorginho are playing together. Brighton game was possibly the best i've seen under Sarri. RLC and Kante provided steel and attacking threat, with dangerous runs by CHO and Eden proving hard to contain. If Higuian is to score, he needs the supply!

    When Sarri is sacked, assume that the duds he is brought to the club like Higuain and in particular Jorginho, will also be shown the exit door.

    His legs have gone, anyone who saw him play for Milan could see that.

    Chelsea gave Milan the chance to dump him & buy Piatek, who Chelsea will probably buy for £100m+ in 18 months.

    Higuain. What an absolute no shock flop he is. Useless.

    Only in the EPL would a 30 something Euro-reject with a developing combover have been brought into a top 6 side at the expense of an academy star like Tammy Abraham or a good homegrown signing such as Callum Wilson.

    Disgraceful choice by Sarri and Chelsea faceless advisors. Again.

    I don't doubt Higuain was a quality striker but he's had his day and should not stay on with us Goroud is better for us.

    Higuain is passed his best. Goals against Huddersfield and Fulham won't get him a move to Chelsea.

    Morata was better, Costa was much better and Chelsea can do much better next season.
