Angel Correra scores the winner for Atletico Madrid — Correra's goal was his fourth of the season for Atletico

Angel Correa scored late on as Atletico Madrid beat Barcelona 3-2 in an incident-packed game to reach the Spanish Super Cup final.

Koke's clinical strike put Atletico ahead early in the second half.

Lionel Messi equalised and then Antoine Griezmann headed Barcelona into the lead in Saudi Arabia.

Alvaro Morata converted a penalty to make it 2-2 before Correra ran through and grabbed the winner with a powerful strike that was too strong for Neto.

In the second half, Messi had a goal ruled out by the video assistant referee for handball while Gerard Pique should have taken the game to extra time but sent his header over the bar.

Atletico's 20-year-old Portuguese forward Joao Felix, who joined the club for £113m in the summer, was involved in an altercation with Messi in the first half, with the pair going head-to-head.

It was sparked by Barca full-back Jordi Alba appearing to poke his finger in Felix's face.

A number of players from both sides got involved to separate Messi and Felix, with Luis Suarez having to be pulled away from Stefan Savic.

Victory means Atletico Madrid will face city rivals Real, who beat Valencia 3-1 on Wednesday, in the final on Sunday (18:00 GMT).

The tournament has a new format this season, with the top two from La Liga and the Copa del Rey finalists playing in a four-team competition rather than the two winners playing each other.

Real, despite finishing third in La Liga, qualified because Barcelona won the league and finished runner-ups in the cup.

Haha, poor Saudi oligarchs, I bet they were expecting/banking on a Barca/Real final. Don't change the rules AGAIN next year just to include Real Madrid if they finish 3rd again or don't win a cup, just invite the two you clearly wanted anyway.

Easy to laugh now I guess, but English teams will be doing this soon, you watch.

Between the greed, VAR & traditional clubs like Bury being allowed to go the the wall I am SO done with football. I haven't watched a game for months.

Sport is just utterly amoral. We're just shills in capitalist machine. Saudi Arabia behead and crucify people, for things that wouldn't have been considered a crime in western Europe 500 years ago. But in the name of money football, snooker, boxing, turn a blind eye.

Still trying to get my head round the fact that FCB & RM got twice as much appearance money than the other 2. The Saudi's obviously wanted the final they aren't going to get.. good!

The hypocrisy of Western sport and politics: China hammered for years about human rights, and then awarded the 2008 Olympics. Russia, apparently a state sponsored doping machine awarded both the Winter Olympics in Sochi AND the football world cup. Saudi Arabia, with it's floggings, amputations and beheadings gets the Spanish Super Cup. Money talks. Politicians talk BS.

So this is what they do on their "winter break" go and play games abroad to make money while abandoning their real fans...won't be long until the EPL will break from tradition, abandon their fans and insist on having a break, but in truth will play all over the world to make more money and not rest their players...the game is lost...
