Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp is manager of month as Virgil van Dijk wins player award
Last updated on .From the section Liverpool
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and manager Jurgen Klopp have been named the Premier League's player and manager of the month for December.
It is the first time Netherlands captain Van Dijk, 27, has won the award and he is the first defender to win it since Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen in March 2013.
Klopp was first named manager of the month in September 2016.
"It's nice, the icing on the cake," said the German.
"It was a very successful but difficult month. Each game felt like the most important one of the season. It was unbelievable. The intensity was massive but that's what made it a special month."
The Reds were unbeaten throughout December with Van Dijk playing in all eight of their matches, scoring in their 2-0 win against Wolves.
Liverpool are four points clear at the top of the Premier League and play Brighton on Saturday.

Why? Because Ole Gunnar Solskjær took a decent team and made them win again, against opposition that aren't really a threat?
Or because Pogba finally decided to start playing football again after bench warming for most of the season?
You have to love crying Mancs.
"A slip will come, don't you worry about that"

Another comment which is incorrect. Gerrard's slip against Chelsea never lost Liverpool the premiership. A home loss to Southampton and a draw against Crystal Palace when leading were more important. Also, Rodger's Liverpool team could not defend, were as Klopp's Liverpool team can!
Boom.
its a team game, and thats why City are still competing for FOUR trophies.Just to put things into perspective Liverpool have lost 5 games this season and City have only lost 4 games
--------------
Competing for 4 trophies does not mean you will win any of them! Also, Liverpool are top of the premiership and 4 points ahead of Man City.
I dunno why the BBC persists with whese Have your says, they're just a playground for social misfits and unemployed alcoholics. I for one am done with it, I'll stick to the pub for footie chat, at least there you can chin any miscreants spouting waffle.
Well done to Klopp and VVD.
My last ever post here. Ciao.
Is it a part of your charter requirement to open HYS's on Liverpool FC stories that don't require them or is it just something that happens because BBC Football is based in Salford and you are quite happy for the many Mancunians you employ to take any and every opportunity to try and wind up Scousers?
I look forward to your non reply.
Thanks.
