Millwall 1-1 Brentford: Lions fail to beat 10-man Bees

Lee Gregory's 12th goal of the season gave Millwall the lead against Brentford

Millwall failed to beat 10-man Brentford to remain in Championship relegation trouble.

After Lee Gregory's close-range finish and a stunning 25-yard equaliser from Brentford midfielder Josh Dasilva, Bees captain Henrik Dalsgaard was sent off for halting Ben Thompson's goal-bound run to cap an action-packed first half.

Despite their man advantage, the home side struggled to break their opponents down and it was in fact Brentford who perhaps deserved to find a winner.

Sergi Canos rattled the crossbar with a near replica of Dasilva's effort, Kamohelo Mokotjo saw a goal ruled out for offside and top-scorer Neal Maupay shot inches wide in the closing moments.

Millwall did hit the bar themselves, but in fortuitous fashion when midfielder Jed Wallace sliced a cross.

A third draw in a row means they are now three points clear of the relegation zone.

Lions boss Neil Harris may well consider this an opportunity missed having taken the lead when Gregory stabbed in at a corner, only for that goal to be quickly cancelled out when Dasilva cut in from the right to rifle into the top corner with his left foot.

But the bigger frustration will likely be from playing against 10 men for almost an hour and struggling to control the game.

Millwall arguably have bigger tests to come, with a trip to promotion-chasing Aston Villa on Monday - the Championship's in-form team - and a home match with play-off hopefuls Bristol City among their final four games.

They finish the campaign away at Wigan, who are currently just a place and two points above them.

Mid-table Brentford - who cannot be promoted or relegated - play Leeds United next.

Millwall manager Neil Harris:

"I thought Brentford could come and be like Brazil. When you've got quality players playing with no pressure, it's a tough team to play against.

"My only frustration is our lack of creativity in the final third. Did we do enough? No.

"A point gained? We certainly have to look at it as a positive but [there is] disappointment that we didn't create more."

Brentford manager Thomas Frank:

"I think it [Dalsgaard's red card] was a little bit harsh but it is what it is. After that, of course, it's a different game but the mentality and the attitude was brilliant from the players and we did what we wanted to do throughout the game.

"We still had a high line, we still tried to play - of course, we had to work even harder - but I think it was a deserved point and we had chances and opportunities to take the win.

"I'm very pleased and proud of the boys for what they did and managed it for 60 minutes under difficult circumstances. In that way, I'm pleased. Of course, you always want more."
