Trump inauguration: Elton John to play?

A member of Donald Trump's transition team has said he believes Elton John will play at the new president's inauguration on 20 January 2017.

Anthony Scaramucci says Mr Trump will be the first president to enter the White House with a pro-gay rights stance.

Even before Mr Trump won the Republican nomination he had already made clear he wanted Elton John to perform at his inauguration.

The rock star’s hits are frequently used at Trump rallies with “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer” being particular favourites.

But earlier this year a publicist for Elton John made clear that permission for the music to be used at rallies had not been given.

Mr Scaramucci who is himself a gay rights activist said: "Elton John is going to be doing our concert on the Mall for the inauguration."

A spokeswoman for the singer has "categorically denied" that Sir Elton will be performing at Mr Trump's presidential inauguration.

"There is no truth in this at all," she told BBC News.
