Restraining order for Cornwall protest banner couple
Richard Whitehouse
Local Democracy Reporting Service
A couple have been given restraining orders after putting up banners with their neighbours’ photos on them in protest against extensions they said invaded their privacy.
Courtney and Fiona Lytton, aged 66 and 60, were charged with harassment of their neighbours at Long Rock, near Penzance, between 25 December 2018 and 28 March 2019 by erecting the banners.
They pleaded not guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates dismissed the charges but placed restraining orders on the couple to prevent them putting up any banners or temporary structures “designed or intended to harass” their neighbours.
The couple claimed Cornwall Council had not followed proper procedure in granting planning permission for the extensions which overlook their back garden.
The restraining orders said Mr and Mrs Lytton “must not make any banners or any other structures designed or intended to harass your neighbours, that is temporary or permanent”.
The order will remain in place for four years.

An 18-year-old man has denied supplying 15 tablets of ecstasy to a 15-year-old girl who died of a drugs overdose.

He was remanded on unconditional bail to appear at Truro Crown Court on 16 August.

There has been a "slight increase" in the number of cases of discrimination reported to the Cornwall Football Association (CFA), it has confirmed.
There have been seven incidents reported so far in 2019, with issues taking place both on and off the field.
The cases cover areas such as gender, sexuality and race.
Richard Pallow, the governance manager for the CFA, described the number as a "fairly average amount".
But he added he believed the rise was because people were "more confident" about coming forward to report incidents like racism, homophobia or online abuse.
The husband of a woman killed in a fatal crash on one of the main routes through the South West - the A303 - said he is "disappointed" by new safety improvements.
Trudi McHugh died in a crash on the A303 Ilminster bypass in 2015.
Paul McHugh said that the changes represent a "token effort" and do not go far enough to improve safety on the road.
Road managers said new safety work on the road was due to start on Monday night, including extra signs and coloured spaces.
