Former Hearts player and manager Jim Jefferies is recovering after suffering a heart attack.

The 68-year-old took unwell while playing golf on Monday morning and was taken to hospital.

In 1998 he led Hearts to their first Scottish Cup triumph in 32 years, defeating Rangers 2-1 at Celtic Park.

His last post in management was at Dunfermline Athletic and he has also had spells in charge of Bradford City, Falkirk and Kilmarnock.

Jefferies has served as sporting director at Scottish League Two side Edinburgh City since February 2017.

A statement from the club on Monday night said: "Chairman Jim Brown has spoken to Jim on the phone this evening and are pleased to say that he is in good spirits and looking forward to making a full recovery."

Hearts were among a number of clubs to send a message of support to Jefferies on social media.
