Cristiano Ronaldo scores four in Portugal win over Lithuania

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals as Portugal beat Lithuania in Euro 2020 qualifying.

The Juventus forward has now scored 93 international goals, 16 behind Iran legend Ali Daei's world record.

He scored an early penalty, before Vytautas Andriuskevicius equalised.

Ronaldo's 20-yard shot went in off the head of Lithuania goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus and he scored two more from Bernardo Silva passes, before William Carvalho's injury-time fifth.

The result keeps Portugal in an automatic qualifying place, five points behind Group B leaders Ukraine.

It was an eighth international hat-trick for 34-year-old Ronaldo, who also scored four against Andorra in 2016.

Serbia moved up into third place in the group with a 3-1 win at Luxembourg, with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring twice.

Ronaldo's international record is one of the key reasons why many people consider him better than Messi:

Ronaldo: 160 caps, 93 goals

Messi: 136 caps, 68 goals

AND Ronaldo played a lot of his earlier games on the wing too, also not forgetting that Messi chose to retire TWICE for his country before being convinced to return... he doesn't care as much as Ronaldo.

Messi has to have the whole team built around him. Got rid of Zlatan. Can only play in a system that allows him a free role whilst others run around him.Hates playing for his country. Great player but Ronaldo is the true GOAT

If Ronaldo had played against the sort of teams Ali Daei scored many of his goals against; the Maldives , Laos, Nepal and Guam and so on, he'd be on about 300.

Love him or hate him, you can't knock Ronaldos record in the game. Apart from the biggest trophy of them all the World cup, he's won every single honour there is to win in the sport. And quite often hes played a big part in his team winning it. Real Madrid were fortunate to employ this man for an entire decade and made full use of his talents, and we are lucky to watch him and Messi both play
