  1. Post update

Thanks for joining us both today.

We're looking forward to a bit of September sunshine over the next few days, and I bet the players in the south are too.

Join myself and Ben again tomorrow from 10:15 BST.

    Until then, goodbye.

  3. Close of play at Derby

    Derbyshire 138 v Sussex 116-3

That's stumps at the County Ground and the close of day one of this penultimate round of County Championship action.

Stiaan van Zyl (49 not out) and Delray Rawlins (26 not out) will be back in the morning with their side just 22 behind Derbyshire.

  4. Post update

    Derbyshire 138 v Sussex 114-3

They're into the final over of the day at the County Ground now.

Stiaan van Zyl and Delray Rawlins can be very pleased with their evening's work - they've put on 89 to help Sussex recover from 25-3.

Can they see out the last six balls?

  5. Post update

    Derbyshire 138 v Sussex 108-3

Sussex are playing for stumps now as Delray Rawlins blocks out Wayne Madsen's first over of the innings.

    Three to go.

  6. Two teams from five to go up

Just a reminder of how the Division Two table was looking before this round of fixtures began.

Northants, Gloucestershire, Durham, Sussex and Glamorgan are the sides looking for the final two promotion spots.

Sussex, who are 103-3 and just 35 behind Derbyshire now, have probably enjoyed the best day out of those teams in the mix.

Although Northants and Glamorgan will also be happy with their efforts.

    Division Two
  7. Post update

    Derbyshire 138 v Sussex 100-3

That leaves us with just the one game remaining at Derby, where Sussex have recovered nicely to reach 100-3. They're 38 behind Derbyshire's 138 all out.

  8. Stumps at New Road

    Worcestershire 221 v Gloucestershire 87-4

14 wickets went at New Road on day one, with Gloucestershire facing an uphill battle to gain a first-innings lead.

  9. Close of play at Headingley

    Yorks v Kent 482-8

Steven Patterson will bowl the last over before stumps.

Rayner is beaten outside off trying to run the ball to third man.

He blocks out the rest of the over and an extraordinary day's play ends.

A record run stand for Kent and at this ground of 346 between Darren Stevens (237) and Sam Billings (138) has put Kent in a position of total dominance which seemed unthinkable after falling to 39-5 this morning.

Five wickets for Duanne Olivier - four of which came in the first eight overs of the day.

  10. Kent near 500 at Headingley

    Yorks v Kent 482-8

Ajaz Patel has taken more tap than anyone else today - 114 runs off 15 overs.

He's back on again, bowling round the wicket to Milnes.

Shot! Milnes is on the back foot, driving through the off side for four.

  11. Kent pile on the pressure at Headingley

    Yorks v Kent 478-8

Yorkshire woes didn't end with prizing out Stevens for 237 and Billings for 138.

Ollie Rayner has 40 runs to his name.

Steven Patterson bowls outside off and Rayner leaves.

  12. Yorkshire punished after Kent run feast

    Yorks v Kent 478-8

Matt Milnes sways out of the way of an Olivier bouncer.

Another bouncer and Milnes ducks. This time it's a no-ball.

The bowler pushes the ball out wider of off stump and Milnes leaves.

Hello! A lovely back foot punch from Milnes through the off side for four.

    Three overs left tonight.

  13. Middlesex collapse at Lancs

    Division Two latest

    Tom Bailey

Tom Bailey has ripped through the heart of Middlesex. The Lancashire seamer has 5-16 to leave them 39-6 at the close, trailing the champions by 220.

It's stumps in Cardiff where Glamorgan have reached 300-4 against Lancashire.

Gloucestershire are 74-4 at Worcestershire, trailing by 147.

Sussex are ticking along on 73-3 in reply to Derbyshire's 138 all out.

And they'll be calling things off very shortly I'm sure at Northants where Durham are 37-4, replying to Northants' 217 all out.

  14. Olivier punished by Milnes

    Yorks v Kent 470-8

Duanne Olivier is hammered off the back foot by Milnes through extra cover for four!

That brings up an unwelcome century for the bowler.

    Five overs left tonight.

  15. Close of play at Chelmsford

    Essex v Surrey 137-4

    Sam Cook

A frustrating day comes to a close at Essex.

Bad light saw only 46.3 overs bowled, and it's ended just about even-stevens. Four wickets for Essex, but a decent platform for Surrey's middle and lower order to build on.

The next three days are forecast to be much brighter.

  16. Bad light stops play at Northampton

    Northants 217 v Durham 37-4

Well, who are you putting your money on here?

A crunch match for both teams who are in the hunt for the promotion places behind Lancashire.

Durham were on the right side of a low-scoring thriller at Lord's last week and they will be hoping for lightening to (not literally) strike twice.

Three wickets for Ben Sanderson after Chris Rushworth took 5-68 for the visitors.

Adam Rossington played the innings of the day with a bold 82 off just 70 balls.

  17. Party time for Lancs

    Division Two latest

Newly crowned champions Lancashire are ripping through Middlesex. They've reduced them to 27-5, Tom Bailey having just removed nightwatchman Miguel Cummins.

Durham are also struggling in their promotion clash at Northants - they're 37-4 in reply to Northants' 217 and off for bad light.

Gloucestershire are also struggling at Worcestershire at 70-4, still 151 behind, but Glamorgan are in fine fettle. They're 292-4 against Leicestershire.

    Sussex are creeping up towards' Derbyshire's first-innings total of 138. They're 59-3.

  18. Kent eight down but in control after Stevens-Billings stand

    Yorks v Kent 461-8

It was worth 346, by the way. We'll be talking a lot about that too.

The new batsman is Matt Milnes who leaves outside off.

Seven overs left tonight. Matt Fisher to continue.

Ollie Rayner cuts to third man for one. Milnes defends.

Can't see a declaration coming any time soon.

  19. Stumps at Trent Bridge

    Notts 425-6 v Warwickshire

Nottinghamshire's best day of the 2019 County Championship season comes to an end.

Steven Mullaney's brutal 179 off 173 balls and Joe Clarke's flawless 125 has given them complete control against Warwickshire.

Ravi Ashwin (29 not out) and Paul Coughlin (22 not out) will resume in the morning.

  20. WICKET Podmore b Fisher 0

    Yorks v Kent 455-8

I'm beginning to regret saying 500 was possible now.

Harry Podmore plays across the line of a straightening ball from Matt Fisher and is castled for a duck.
