Australia managed to strong-arm their way back into the contest from 21-12 adrift early in the second half, deploying some old-school one-out straightforward power rugby.
Two tries from hooker Silatolu Latu at the back of a pair of driven line-outs saw them safe before Fiji lost shape and fitness in the last quarter.
