Thomas Muller: Bayern Munich forward suspended for Liverpool tie
Last updated on .From the section European Football
Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is set to miss both legs of their Champions League last-16 tie against Liverpool after he was given a two-match European ban.
Muller, 29, was sent off in December's 3-3 group-stage draw with Ajax for kicking Nicolas Tagliafico in the head.
The German - who has scored 42 goals in 107 Champions League appearances - has appealed against the decision.
The sides meet at Anfield on 19 February and in Munich on 13 March.
The sending-off was the first of Muller's career and after the incident he posted on social media: "I would like to apologise to Nico Tagliafico for the incident. It was unintentional. Get well soon."

Cos when your sent off you're banned for the next matches and the next matches just happen to be against Liverpool. Same reason why VVD is missing from the 1st leg after picking up 2 yellow cards. It's called the rules of football.....
Doesn't mean it's not a red card like but the picture doesn't do it justice.
Maybe cos they're playing against the kopites? Who else would he be banned against??
The only thing that is ridiculous is your comment comparing unintentional handballs to dangerous play and stating Muller is "clearly innocent". The very fact that he has his foot 6' in the air, studs showing, and isn't paying attention to the player next to him is the definition of dangerous play.
@47 & 50
Have the citeh plastic fans paid for the damage they caused at Wigan last season??? 100s of seats destroyed and plus attacks on females and children ....ded ard.........Don't throw stones in a glass house ...idiot
"Liverpool never got their UCL ban for the disgraceful actions of fans against the Man City bus."
No bans were given to City or manu for their fans for attacking buses either. Why are you only concerned with Liverpool fans? If you punish the club hoping fans will learn, you'll have hundreds of manu fans outside anfield every week throwing bricks at buses.
Would be more severe if this was 4/5 years ago.
"Rules are rules", or "the law is an ass" - whatever. Accept the ban, and get on with it.
"The sooner Citeh's OIL runs out the sooner they can go back to Div 2 and obscurity."
Hang on, weren't your club an hour or so away from going bankrupt? I remember banners in the kop pleading for a rich saudi prince to bail you lot out!
Just cos the Boston Red Sox owner is not as rich as ours is not our fault, so stop your whining and get your facts right!
Liverpool are a very very LUCKY team..........

So using your logic, if Huddersfield get a bit of luck they could still win the league? There's a little bit more to it than just luck
