Professional Class with Live Percussion
At DanceXchange studios in Birmingham Hippodrome watch an energetic, high octane contemporary dance class featuring Birmingham-based professional artists. It's led by Johnny Autin, creative director of Birmingham’s Autin Dance Theatre, and accompanied by live music from award winning percussionist Azizi Cole. Throughout the day BA Illustration students from Birmingham City University will be interpreting movement in a direct response to the live studio sessions. Birmingham Hippodrome is also home to Birmingham Royal Ballet, Dance Consortium and One Dance UK.

Company Class with Candoco Dance Company
At London's Studio Wayne McGregor contemporary company Candoco Dance Company present a company class with their disabled and non-disabled professional dancers and invited guests. Warm up, technique and improvisation exercises prepare dancers for a day’s work in the studio, making a new piece with choreographer Theo Clinkard. The class is led by Candoco's rehearsal director, Susanna Recchia, with live music performed by Ronen Kozokaro.

Viviana Durante Company
From London's Royal Ballet School watch internationally acclaimed ballet legend Viviana Durante teach the cast of Seven Deadly Sins segments from the show as they countdown to their first performance at Wilton’s Music Hall on 8 May. This behind-the-scenes look features remarkable Royal Ballet Principal Laura Morera and Queen of Chanson, Meow Meow, as well as ten corps de ballet as they rehearse Envy and Lust.

DAZL Boys: CHEER-Up
This performance from Leeds' Northern School of Contemporary Dance has been created by 12 of the UK’s only All Male Cheerdance Squad, The DAZL Boys. The group is dedicated to delivering and showcasing cheerdance solely to boys. This performance incorporates high energy Pom dance with hip hop and urban dance influences. The boys taking part are aged 10-18 years old and are from inner city Leeds where Pom dance isn’t the status quo but DAZL has always been at the forefront of doing something a little different.

The Power of Dance with Birmingham Royal Ballet
Back in Birmingham a 100-metre bike race between a rugby player, a footballer, a contemporary dancer and Birmingham Royal Ballet Soloist Lachlan Monaghan is used to investigate the power of each professional. They then demonstrate how dancers use their power more efficiently through their impressive jumps. The session also looks at how National Institute of Dance Medicine and Science partners Wolverhampton University and BRB are exploring the benefits of dance in the older population.

Jukebox Collective
The vision of Jukebox Collective is rooted in collaboration and exploring the concept of dance as a language for inspirational storytelling. They are a social enterprise and creative hub for dance based in Wales, focused on delivering powerful, inspiring education and artist development work as well as producing high class work for film and on stage. This performance includes Jukebox Performing Arts Academy, a collective of young artists with a distinctive creative approach to theatre.

Autobiography in rehearsal with Company Wayne McGregor
Company Wayne McGregor rehearse Autobiography, which is choreographed by Wayne McGregor CBE, and based on his own DNA and 25 year archive. Acclaimed US electronic music producer Jlin created the original score and Autobiography premiered at Sadler's Wells, where Company Wayne McGregor are Resident Company. The 23 dance pieces which make up Autobiography are assembled by a bespoke computer algorithm in a unique order for every show.

Getting Under the Skin of a Dancer
This Birmingham session shows how cutting-edge technology is used in the historical art form of ballet to support these unique athletes. It explores the physiological demands for Principal dancer Tzu-Chao Chou when he performs an expressive dance solo from Birmingham Royal Ballet's upcoming Peter and the Wolf, with new choreography by Ruth Brill. BRB use an Xsens suit and Metamax gas analyser to understand what demands are put on the dancer.

Rambert and Marion Motin
Rambert presents a sneak peek of their brand new work by Marion Motin, a hip hop-influenced choreographer from France with hundreds of millions of YouTube views for her videos for Christine and the Queens and Dua Lipa, who has never worked with a contemporary dance company, until now.

RJC Dance Youth Provision Carnival troupe 'ROOTS, RESPECT AND STILL RISING'
We’re back in Leeds for three performances. The first is inspired by and honours 25 years of RJC Dance and is presented by young people aged 9-12 years. The troupe (aka Shahck Out Saturday Juniors) have won numerous awards at Europe’s oldest carnival, the Leeds West Indian Carnival. Drawing influence from 15 years of extensive designs and presentations, the themes of their historic troupes have covered: environmental issues, the recession, the bicentenary of the Abolition of Slavery, and the fusion of Caribbean/Yorkshire heritage.

Möbius Dance: Time Moves Slow
Time Moves Slow by Möbius Dance is seen through four different perspectives, inspired by four different songs and acknowledges four different heroes tasked with the climbing the same mountain and overcoming the same challenge. They embrace the choice to do it together rather than alone. It is performed by Ana Fernández Melero, Charlie Hogan, Iolanda Portogallo and Stefania Pinato.

Windows Of Displacement (excerpt)
Using his own journey of migration from Jamaica to the UK as a catalyst, Akeim Toussaint Buck brings together dance, spoken word and song to tell a story that is both deeply personal and universal. Toussaint presents the threads connecting oppression, from the Transatlantic Slave Trade, to the current mining and exploitation of the Congo. A journey galvanising people power and reclaiming our collective responsibility. Created and performed by Akeim Toussaint Buck, co-written by Zodwa Nyoni.

National Dance Company Wales: Discover Dance
From Swansea, Discover Dance is a fun and relaxed interactive performance. Over the course of the live stream, local school children learn some dance moves from National Dance Company Wales' dancers and learn about a life of a dancer. Join in wherever you are for some dancing fun.

Akram Khan Company
At Sadler's Wells in London, Akram Khan Company invite you to check out the rehearsals for their new company production, Outwitting the Devil. Drawing inspiration from the most recently discovered tablet from the Epic of Gilgamesh, Akram and his collaborators are creating the narrative of six characters seeking to make whole the fragments of ancient knowledge lost and forgotten over time.

The Science of Lifting with Motionhouse
Motionhouse performers demonstrate lifts and showcase the strength and physicality of their performers, notably their strong women. Artistic Director Kevin Finnan MBE and Rehearsal Director Junior Cunningham talk about how the dancers work together to execute a lift. The second part of the session is a rehearsal of excerpts from the current touring production, Charge, during which we see the lifts in context and action.

Helen Lewis Dance Studio, Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast
Maiden Voyage Dance perform an excerpt of Each for Other, a piece about taking that next step, mentally and physically, conquering hindrances and obstacles as the performers find collective strength and possibility while supporting each other. Ajendance’s Sugar Army perform live with a piece choreographed by Oona Doherty, and grand-dame of NI dance Jane Mooney talks about training under Helen Lewis herself and the important impact dance has had on her life.

State of Mind by ACE Youth
Centred around schizophrenia, State of Mind explores the status of our consciousness, our perception of our intuition and the outside world and how it affects our actions, behaviour and body movements. The work is choreographed by Douglas Thorpe and performed by the youth dance company of ACE dance and music, internationally recognised leaders in the field of Contemporary African and Caribbean Dance.

English National Ballet
Dancers from English National Ballet rehearse Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's Broken Wings, which is based on the life of Frida Kahlo. It's one of three pieces featured in She Persisted, a mixed programme of work by female choreographers performing at Sadler's Wells. She Persisted continues English National Ballet's commitment to showcasing the woman’s voice in choreography, and follows 2016's acclaimed She Said programme.

Clog Dancing, the English Folk Tradition
The English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Laura Connolly is a Northumbrian champion clog dancer and educator in the folk arts. She presents a demonstration in clog dancing, followed by a workshop. Clog dancing was a popular home entertainment in the decades leading up to 1900, particularly amongst textile and mining workers in England’s North East. The best dancers were highly competitive.

Yuva Gati Guided Rehearsal
For a fascinating insider view of the artistic process join talented dancer Aishani Ghosh and her mentor Shane Shambhu in Birmingham as they rehearse a demanding solo performance. Actor, theatre director and award-winning choreographer Shane Shambhu is Artistic Associate of Yuva Gati at Birmingham’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT), where Aishani is a graduating student in both Contemporary and Bharatanatyam styles.

Phoenix Dance Theatre in Rehearsal: Left Unseen
Get an insight into studio activity in Leeds as Phoenix Dance Theatre’s company dancers rehearse contemporary dance piece Left Unseen by Amaury Lebrun. This is a unique opportunity to hear from the Company’s Artistic Director, Sharon Watson and see Lebrun and Phoenix’s Rehearsal & Tour Director set work for the dancers. The piece was originally commissioned by Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

National Dance Company Wales: Rygbi – Annwyl I Mi/ Dear to Me
In Swansea see NDCWales dancers and local Ospreys Rugby Club in rehearsals for NDCWales' new production, Rygbi – Annwyl I Mi/ Dear to Me which connects dance and the nation’s passion for rugby. NDCWales are working with rugby communities across Wales including the Ospreys as part of #DancePassion.

National Youth Dance Company
National Youth Dance Company is made up of 38 talented young dancers from all over England. Today at Sadler's Wells eight dancers from the company rehearse their new work MADHEAD with Olivier-nominated choreographer Botis Seva, this year's Guest Artistic Director. Drawing on Seva’s unique movement language of physical theatre and hip hop, and on the exuberant, impulsive energy of youth culture, MADHEAD makes its world premiere at Ipswich’s DanceEast on 20 April.

Rosie Kay Dance Company: Telling the Stories of Frontline Soldiers with Dance
After experiencing a career-threatening injury, Commonwealth Games Handover choreographer Rosie Kay was drawn to the parallels between soldiers’ and dancers’ training, and the commitment, discipline and strength required. Ahead of the premiere of 10 SOLDIERS at Birmingham Hippodrome in May see the dancers perform whilst Rosie discusses her ideas and introduces new cast member, serving solider Trooper Alex Smith, 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards.

ZYCBrum: Excerpt from The Bside
Birmingham Hippodrome's ZooNation Youth Company (ZYCBrum) is ZooNation’s first young company outside London and is made up of 15 talented hip-hop dancers aged between 10 and 20. They present an excerpt from Bside, a new show about an individual with the power to help her community see in colour, rather than black and white. Dr Ranj Singh then interviews Dance Captains Milan Balaz and Charlie Perks.

The Night is Young, So Are We
In a second Leeds trilogy Kenneth Tindall creates a contemporary ballet duet for Northern Ballet’s Ayça Anil and Harris Beattie in response to Ella Eyre’s version of We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off. Ballet is often described as elitist, boring and not relevant, Kenneth wants to change that perception. He hopes that witnessing the power, beauty, physicality and skill of the classical dance language with a familiar soundtrack demonstrates that ballet can be enjoyed by everyone.

DeNada Dance Theatre
DeNada Dance Theatre is a UK-based dance company that exports, explores and subverts Hispanic and Latin culture in Britain and beyond. In this session they present an in rehearsal excerpt from their new show Mariposa, a transgender tragedy inspired by Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. It is choreographed by the company's director, Carlos Pons Guerra.

Gracefool Collective
Using their unique concoction of wildly entertaining dance theatre, Gracefool invite YOU to be guests at the non-wedding event of the year as they attempt to come to terms with coming of age in a high pressure, low tolerance, zero hour contract society. Four bridal-clad women attempt to entertain, delight and maintain their dignity in a desperate last ditch effort to work out what the hell it all means.

Rambert Presents: The Playground
Welcome to The Playground! Join Rambert for their free open evening, where artists from all backgrounds come together to use dance to explore, create, collaborate and play. Watch original dance being created live as three choreographers are each given a group of dancers and studio time to work through themes and ideas, with a “sharing” of their work at the end of the evening.

Ferran Carvajal/Trevor Carlson – Not a moment too soon
The Barbican live streams Not a moment too soon, a solo performance by Trevor Carlson (former Executive Director of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company) that reflects on the years he spent as companion and close friend to the choreographer Merce Cunningham, offering a rare insight into the final days of a master. Carlson’s performance is a tapestry of video, text, music and movement layered with previously unseen footage of Cunningham. As Carlson weaves in and around projection panels hung onstage, he presents a visual and oral history of their adventures through recollections of precious moments spent together. Tapping into key periods of Cunningham’s later life, this is a touching farewell to a loved one. Please note: this is available to watch on the Barbican YouTube channel.
