Walkers found after night on Braeriach in Cairngorms

Two hillwalkers have been found after going missing overnight in bad weather on Britain's third highest mountain.

The alarm was raised at about 18:15 on Thursday after the pair became disorientated on Braeriach in the Cairngorms.

Cairngorm, Braemar, Aberdeen and RAF mountain rescue teams and coastguard helicopters were involved in the search overnight.

The walkers were found at 09:30 on Friday.

Police said they were located "safe and well".

While searching overnight, Cairngorm MRT came across another two walkers in difficulty.

They were evacuated suffering from the effects of the cold.

Later operation

There was reduced visibility overnight due to low cloud and driving rain.

Inverness and Prestwick helicopter crews were involved in the search effort.

Later in the day, members of the Braemar team were called out again with Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team members for an injured walker on Carn na Claise in the Cairngorms.
