Relive the highlights as Perry helps Australia dominate England in Women's Ashes Test

At the other end, Perry just kept... being Perry.

England used seven bowlers, the second new ball didn't help much and Australia were left in a dominant position after the first day.

We also witnessed a curious innings from Rachael Haynes - who raced to 40, dominating the early part of her partnership with Perry, but then the shutters came down and it took her an age to get from 40 to 50.

But that allowed Ellyse Perry to take centre stage. The all-rounder, who hit an unbeaten double century against England in their last Test meeting at North Sydney Oval in 2017, was ruthless at the occasional loose delivery from England's spinners.

Lanning became the second half-centurion of the innings after lunch - but fell to the recovered Ecclestone:

Healy reached her half-century, but soon became England debutant Kirstie Gordon's first Test wicket.

A less good moment for England was captain Heather Knight dropping her opposite number Meg Lanning on 26, not long before lunch. She went on to make 57.

England were in the wars a bit during the first session - Sophie Ecclestone injured herself trying to take a catch, and was forced off in the middle of an over - while Tammy Beaumont also spent time off the field after being hit on the left thumb while fielding at short leg.

More news from the ICC, by the way - Croatia and Zambia have joined Zimbabwe in being suspended - while Morocco have been expelled from the world governing body.

Alyssa Healy, opening for the first time in a Test, got Australia off at a good rate after they won the toss and predictably chose to bat - but England's hopes were high after opening partner Nicole Bolton was bowled by Katherine Brunt.

Tammy Beaumont is signing autographs near me, there's no sign of any strapping and she doesn't look to be in any pain so that's an encouraging sign.

Anya is clearly trying to be positive, obviously she's not going to say "we've lost the game" but it was clearly Australia's day - you couldn't see where the other wickets were coming from. It's going to be hard work to eke out those wickets.

England vice-captain Anya Shrubsole on TMS: "It would have been nice to get more wickets, but we've worked hard out there and we caused some problems - Australia batted with huge amounts of discipline, particularly in the final session. Being out there on your feet for six hours is tough, but we love playing Test match cricket when it comes around.

"We can't control the weather or predict the rain, all we can control is what we do on the field - we didn't have a lot of luck today. Ellyse Perry is obviously a brilliant batter with a solid technique, she hits the ball straight. We bowled well at her, and we've got to try to get her early tomorrow.

"I love coming back here to play, I spent so many years playing and training here, so I feel really lucky to be a part of this game. Hopefully we can give the locals something to cheer about."

Some big breaking news from the International Cricket Council's annual conference: Zimbabwe have been suspended from the ICC with immediate effect.

The board found that Zimbabwe "had failed to fulfil their obligation to provide a process for free and democratic elections and to ensure that there is no government interference in its administration for cricket."

Funding will be suspended and teams not allowed to compete in ICC events.

I can't see England necessarily winning this Test match, but I would like to see them be more positive as there's a lot that they can learn from this Test match.

More from opener Alyssa Healy on TMS, on her pre-series claim that Australia would be aiming to win every single game: "It was a bit of a joke - with the fickle nature of the white-ball formats, it'll be very difficult to do, but we want to get our hands on that trophy."

England look pretty tired, mentally and physically, after that day in the field. They gambled a lot on this pitch being spin-friendly, but lost the toss and then looked as though they might have lost their main spinner to injury.

Australia opener Alyssa Healy on TMS: "It's nice to start the Test match the way we have, and get through the day largely unscathed. I tried to cash in as much as I could with the new ball, it took some spin later and the more we can cash in during the first innings, the better.

"There's still a long way to go - the weather forecast doesn't look great, we could be on and off a little, but we'll see what damage we can do. You saw how emotional the three debutants and the cap presenters were, the Baggy Green is very special and it's great to see it in an Ashes series.

"Ellyse lives for this format, and we hope she can bat as long as she can tomorrow."

A sign of those tired bodies, and tired minds, came in the number of fielding errors we've seen. Australia would have been so pleased to win the toss and take the chance to wear England down. And they will still feel they can win this game.

There are going to be some tired bodies, and some hurt bodies out there. And England must be feeling mentally drained.

A wicketless last session, just the one after lunch - really, it's been the sort of day when the game has meandered away from England. There weren't too many runs being scored at times, Australia were very patient in the way they built their innings and definitely finished the day in the dominant position.
