  1. Post update

And with that, time for me to wrap things up for the evening.

Job done for England as they qualify for Euro 2020 with a game to spare. Now the preparation for next year's tournament begins.

Thanks for joining us tonight, see you later!

  2. 'It's been a difficult road for Oxlade-Chamberlain'

    FT: England 7 (seven)-0 Montenegro

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Gareth Southgate added: "We've got incredible speed and athleticism and, really, we had five goalscorers on the field from the start plus defenders who can use the ball really well.

"But [we showed] the hunger to press and win the ball back quickly as well, we didn't give Montenegro any time to settle at all.

"It's been a difficult road for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with that serious injury but he showed, in that position, that he gives us a great attacking threat, great running power moving forward, good quality with the ball, and also the physical capacity to defend and work for the team. He presses really well. He did what I thought he would and he's on a good path back to full fitness."

  3. 'England haven't peaked yet'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Harry Kane can go on to break Wayne Rooney's record. But to be the greatest he and England need to win a major tournament.

England haven't peaked yet, and what I do like is that there's a lot of competition for places.

  4. Blueprint for success at 'home' tournament

Euro 2020 is not an official 'home' tournament for England - but with group games at Wembley and the semi-finals and finals also held at the stadium, it is the nearest equivalent since the Euro '96.

So what must Gareth Southgate and England do in the coming months to end the barren years since the 1966 World Cup?

BBC Sport's chief football reporter Phil McNulty takes a look.

  5. England at Euro 2020: What we know so far

    .

Although the draw has not taken place yet, we know for certain that England will be in Group D at the Euros.

And by qualifying automatically, the Three Lions ensured they will play all three group matches at Wembley.

If they are to reach the final, five of their seven matches will be at the national stadium, with only the last-16 and quarter-final matches to be played overseas.

  6. Elsewhere in Euro 2020 qualifying

    .

Cristiano Ronaldo took his tally to 98 international goals as his hat-trick against Lithuania moved Portugal to within one win of a place at Euro 2020.

The Portugal captain scored an early penalty before curling in a second in the 6-0 win.

Elsewhere, Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud scored the winner from the penalty spot as world champions France came from a goal down to beat Moldova in their Euro 2020 qualifier and move top of Group H.

France's qualification was secured before kick-off, thanks to second-placed Turkey's home draw with Iceland.

Meanwhile, Serbia edged Luxembourg 3-2 in Group B while Alabania and Andorra drew 2-2 in Group H.

  7. 'We've found a way'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

    BBC Radio 5 Live

England boss Gareth Southgate was asked if that was as easy as it gets in international football: "It was, because we played so well in the first half. I know France have taken a long time tonight to get a victory against Moldova.

"We've won a group that we should win but we've won it comfortably and we've found a way of playing against those lower-ranked teams that defend in numbers. We've found a way to break them down, which maybe in the past we haven't."

  8. 'I felt confident with the shot'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

England goalscorer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, speaking to ITV Sport: "It was nice to be back in the starting line up. It has been a while and I just wanted to do what the manager and the coaches have been talking about this week.

"I have been in good form with the goals recently so when the chance came I felt confident with the shot. It is nice to see it go in and obviously special.

"This England team is young and exciting and full of ability but they are a good group of players who want to work hard."

  9. 'I want to kick on'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

    BBC Radio 5 Live

More from James Maddison: "It was such a convincing, clinical performance, in the first half especially. The goals were flying in and I was sat on the bench itching to be part of it. Thankfully I got the nod off the manager and it's a moment I won't forget.

"I did alright. I'm always very harsh on myself. I think it was just about getting that first cap and then really kicking on and showing the manager and the other players in the squad the quality that I've got."

  10. 'A very special feeling'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

    BBC Radio 5 Live

England's James Maddison on making his senior debut: "I've had to be a bit patient but that's because of the quality in the squad. The manager's got options so I've had to wait over the course of a few camps but that made it all the sweeter when I got out there tonight. It was a very special feeling.

"Sometimes you have to take a step back and be proud. Representing your country is the pinnacle. I know my family were up there watching and I'll go up to see them now."

  11. 'We have a style of play that can open teams up'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

England boss Gareth Southgate, speaking to ITV: "Super quality passing and crossing and clinical finishing.

"In the past we have maybe struggled against lower ranked teams who defend in numbers but we have players who can open those teams up and a style of play that can do that. We have qualified top and done it clinically.

"We have to get both ends of the pitch right. We conceded a couple of chances we shouldn't. There is still work to do without the ball but we are improving."

Kyzatoonfan4 - "Brilliant performance from England. It was a joy to watch and with how young a side we are we will only get better. We have every chance of winning the euros especially with the 3 England group games and 2 semi finals and final being at Wembley"

  13. 'Chilwell pick of the bunch'

    FT: England 7-0 Montenegro

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought Ben Chilwell was fantastic. There were many good performances and Chilwell was the supply line.

Absolutely he has the (left-back) shirt. His performances for Leicester this season have warranted hm getting an opportunity and he's taken it.

Defensively he wasn't tested, maybe he'll get a better test at the weekend. I think Gareth Southgate will learn more from that game than he did from tonight.

  14. Post update

    England 7-0 Montenegro

Just looking at Ben Chilwell's stats and he had more assists (three), made more tackles (four) and created more chances (four) than any other player. Excellent performance.

  15. 'Hopefully a few more to come'

    England 7-0 Montenegro

England striker Harry Kane, who scored a hat-trick, speaking to ITV: "We all know how impressive Shearer was at scoring goals. A milestone to hit and hopefully a few more to come.

"We have had one slip up in the group and responded really well. Got the job done and wanted to put on a show in our 1,000th game and with five goals in the first half I think we did that.

"We want to win that game away from home (against Kosovo). We will enjoy this with one eye on Sunday."

On Raheem Sterling being dropped for the game: "The gaffer spoke to me and some of the other senior players in the group and that is the decision we came to. We move on. He has been good around camp and training well."

  16. Elsewhere in Group A

Czech Republic came from behind to beat Kosovo 2-1 and join England in qualifying for Euro 2020.

  17. 'Job done'

    FT: England 7 (seven)-0 Montenegro

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

England were ruthless. Montenegro were thoroughly miserable. It was all too easy on the night, but job done.
