So Exeter Chiefs have won their first European Champions Cup final with a thrilling 31-27 victory over Racing 92.

It marks a brilliant decade for the Devon club, who were playing in the second tier of English rugby 10 years ago.

Rob Baxter's side go into the Premiership final chasing a league and cup double when they face Wasps at Twickenham next weekend.

Join us for live coverage of that one.

    Until next time...

FT: Exeter Chiefs win the Champions Cup

Speaking to BT Sport, Exeter full-back Stuart Hogg said: "We worked incredibly hard for this and it's been a long time coming. I was just a boy living the dream,I had an opportunity to come here, and I have loved it. It's an absolute honour to be a part of this team and to lift the European trophy is starting to sink in.

"The boys are buzzing and we are going to enjoy this one. we work incredibly hard on a daily basis and we challenge each other. That is why we can enjoy these wins."

England World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

Racing 92 were in control against 14 men but thought it was too easy and they could just run in a try. But it shows what total mush your brain goes into when you are under duress in top-level sport.

  5. 'Incredible story'

FT: Exeter Chiefs win the Champions Cup

Speaking to BT Sport, Exeter head coach Rob Baxter said: "It is an incredible story for these guys and the club. It was a horrible game to watch and that last 10 minutes seemed to go on forever, but we have seen it out and it feels like it was meant to be.

We had to fight for every inch and that was massively important for us. We went for it and I'm glad we have come through it, for all the hard work and the sacrifice the players have made. It feels like a fitting reward."

Matthew: EXETER CHIEFS... European Champions! What an utterly compelling enthralling final. I need a lie down

Lee: Fantastic achievement for Exeter to become European champions

  7. 'Deserved champions'

    Exeter 31-27 Racing 92

    Jeremy Guscott

Former England centre on BBC Radio 5 Live

Total elation for Exeter and all their fans back home wishing they could be here. They are deserved champions.

  8. Post update

FT: Exeter Chiefs win the Champions Cup

You have to feel for Racing and Simon Zebo, who was excellent today.

The Ireland winger scored a couple of great tries, but he joins his teammates in collecting losers' medals.

The question remains, why didn't Racing and Finn Russell take the drop goal as they were camped inside the Exeter 22 late on?

  9. 'Heartbreaking'

FT: Exeter Chiefs win the Champions Cup

Speaking to BT Sport, Racing 92 winger Simon Zebo said: "It's pretty hard to put into words. It is something we have tried to accomplish for so long, me especially with where I come from. It means a lot to this group of players and it's heartbreaking.

"We probably made a few errors but the effort and the heart was there. It was just a bit of precision that let us down. We were close and hopefully we can strike gold soon.

"We really want to put the star on the jersey so we will keep trying."

  10. 'A final like no other'

FT: Exeter Chiefs win the Champions Cup

    Matt Dawson

England World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think I've seen a final like that - they tend to be more cagey.

And when a team goes as far ahead as Exeter did you think this is a one-way show but it was Exeter who were hanging on at the end.

Sport does some weird things to your emotions and at the end there was massive tension and drama even in an empty stadium.

  11. 'I was welling up'

FT: Exeter Chiefs win the Champions Cup

Speaking to BT Sport, Exeter captain Joe Simmonds said: "It still hasn't sunk in. This has been a whole squad effort, we have lost finals before but we have come on massively as a team, and credit to everyone.

"I was welling up a little bit and to have my brother beside me is massive. It shows the quality of this side and we can really go far."

  12. 'Exeter teamwork has won it'

    Exeter 31-27 Racing 92

    Jeremy Guscott

Former England centre on BBC Radio 5 Live

Exeter are a team whereas Racing have individuals. Exeter finished the match with 14 players on the field but backed themselves in a defensive position and have won it together.

  13. 'Amazing achievement'

    Exeter 31-27 Racing 92

    Matt Dawson

England World Cup winner on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's an amazing achievement for Exeter. There can't have been an other winning team that have only been in the top league for 10 years and they deserve it because they have been the best team this season.
