Man City cruise past West Ham in first game since Euro ban

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought our effort was fantastic. The players did everything they could. We set up to make things difficult for them and for periods we did do. We hoped to counter attack better more often but that is the difficulty against a side like that.

"I would love to play them at their game and have a go but that is why they are where they are in the league. They are a really good team.

"I want to be able to play, get forward and play good stuff. I feel we showed good organisational qualities tonight. We are in a really tough period of games at the moment.

"Getting a good structure, especially defensively because if you don't concede then you have a good chance of picking up some form of points."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to Match of the Day: "We are professionals on the pitch, what happens off it we cannot do much. We talked about what we have to do until the end of the season, especially for the people who love this club. We will play our game the best as possible. We have a lot of interesting things to play for."

Asked if he will stay regardless of the outcome of the appeal against the European football ban: "If they don't sack me I will be here. I love this club. I like to be here. This is my club and I will be here, no matter.

"We appeal. When someone believe they are right they have to fight. The club has to fight and I trust the club 100% what they have done and they have explained to me.

"This situation is not finished and we will wait but until the resolution is not done you have to play and play and that is what is going to happen."

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports news about the European football ban: "It’s not finished. The club believes it's unfair so we are going to appeal. We are going to wait. All we can do is on the pitch and do what we have done the last four years and focus on that until the end of the season. I trust 100% completely my club what they have done. They explained to me the reasons why.

"We are going to fight like we have fought every single game and day we are together until the end of the season. We are optimistic that at the end the truth will prevail and next season we will be in the Champions League.

"If they don’t sack me I will stay here 100% more than ever. First because I want to stay. It’s something special, more than the contract I have. I said before, I say now I want to stay and help the club and maintain this level as long as possible."

Asked if he'd stay even if they were forced to play in League Two: "Why should I leave? When I said I love this club I like to be here, why should I leave? No matter what happens I will be here next season."

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to Match of the Day: "Probably not as close as we'd like but I felt the players did a great job in trying to be organised and disciplined. We did it well for long periods but they move the ball so well.

"Overall I would have liked to have seen us play much better with the ball and especially on the counter attack. Our pass or ball was not good enough or we gave it away when we were trying to set up a move but we were playing against a top team.

"We all know that roughly 40 points keeps you in the Premier League but we also know that we are in a really tough period of games. Goal difference also comes into thinking.

"I don't want loads of pressure on Jarrod Bowen to come in and help us. I am hoping in the coming months he can help us but I am trying to not put too much pressure on him."

An easy win for his team on the pitch, now to hear what Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has to say off it.

Guardiola is yet to speak publicly since news of City's expulsion from the Champions League broke on Friday evening.

In the past he has said he trusts the club's hierarchy when they say they have done nothing wrong.

What will the stance be tonight. By my reckoning, he has three or four broadcast interviews to do before he heads into the media room for his post-match press conference.

"We still have a lot to play for with the two cups and Champions League so let's hope we can find rhythm as quickly as possible and win some titles."

Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was OK. I think we saw its been three weeks without football and we felt a little bit of rustiness but we played a good game.

On Laporte's return: "With the ball he's very confident and gives us options and he's been doing this for years. He helped us win a lot of titles and is doing really well. I know when you're injured so long it takes time, but the way he performed today will give him confidence and give the team confidence."

The race for the title may be over but that win strengthens Manchester City's place in second. They move four points clear of Leicester.

Man City will be delighted to get back on the pitch and do the talking with the football. From the moment the first goal went in the tie was never going to be anything different. Manchester City were always in control, the surprise was that they didn't go in search for more. They were happy to play within themselves in second gear for most of that game.

All over and Manchester City record a comfortable, comfortable win.

Beautiful move by Phil Foden as he backheels the ball through the West Ham defence on the spin, trying to find Gabriel Jesus but Lukasz Fabianski just gets to the ball first.

Over in the Champions League, Tottenham have fallen behind at home to RB Leipzig as Timo Werner scores from the spot.

I think Pep Guardiola knows the standards his team can play at and he wants them playing at that level all the time. It's not been a bad reintroduction to Premier League football for his side. A comfortable victory which has been over since that second goal went in really.
