More from Joe Root talking to Sky Sports: "We had an opportunity to try something (the five seamers) outside of the Test Championship and we decided to do that so we know more about that now, we know more about the guys and that's a good thing."
On Jofra Archer: "He's found out that Test cricket is hard, you sometimes don't get the rewards you deserve in Test cricket. He is a fantastic talent and there's no doubt he's going to contribute to England in Test cricket. I expect him to bounce back quite quickly. He's a fast learner."
On Ollie Pope: "He showed great maturity last night and the way he batted throughout his innings he managed some tricky periods. I'm very pleased for him to play in that situation. He managed situations very well and got us into a position where we could dictate terms."
On Dom Sibley: "He will come away from this with good experiences and I'm sure he'll do some good learning from this too."
On a possible return to Test cricket for Moeen Ali: "I need to sit down with Ed Smith and speak about Mo and see where he's up to. He's a very fine player and I'm sure he'll be back playing Test cricket at some stage."

More from Kane Williamson: "From our guys perspective it was great to see the fight and the attitude when nothing was happening, the guys still wanted the ball in their hand.
"It was a great contribution from Daryl Mitchell in his first Test and someone like Matt Henry, who has come in when there have been niggles, and performed well on what was a tough surface for the seamers.
"Those two [Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme] are tracking nicely so hopefully they'll be ready for the next match."

England captain Joe Root talking to Sky Sports: "It was a frustrating day. I thought we tried everything as bowling group, a couple of chances didn't stick. I thought we were forcing the issue a lot of the time.
"We are learning a lot. You've got to learn from the opposition. Neil Wagner for example, he's got a big heart and a big engine. That's what you want, guys who keep running in and want to change the game.
"We've done some really good stuff. We've created pressure with the ball but we need to be taking more chances. We created two really good chances today but didn't take them and that's something we've got to get better at."

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "It was a great fighting effort over the last couple of weeks. We know how strong the England side is. To lose both tosses but to keep showing that fight was really pleasing to see.
"The first match for us was a fantastic victory. To come here and back it up with another strong performance was really pleasing.
"This surface was a tough one. It didn't break up as much as we were expecting. We lost a bit of time due to weather which, I guess that's an unknown."
'We want to be harder to beat'
England captain Joe Root: "It was a really good pitch to bat on. Unfortunately it didn't break up as we hoped it might do but I am really proud of how we played that innings. For us to come back after last week and learn the lessons and put in a performance with the bat like that was really pleasing.
"It was shame about the rain - a shame losing the sessions early in the game. If we didn't lose those the pitch might have deteriorated quicker and done a bit more coming into this last day. That is part and parcel of the game we play. They managed those periods well and soaked up a lot of pressure last night and this morning.
"We are a side that wants to learn quite quickly and wants to become quite resilient in these conditions. We want to become a much harder side to beat first and foremost and then go on and win games when it does get flat and hard and similarly go and make really big totals and put sides under pressure."
