  1. Good night!

    And that's us done too.

We won't see you in 2021, it's back on Saturday for the return of the Premier League. Spot on.

  2. 'Still trying to build and improve'

    FT England 4-0 Iceland

    Gareth Southgate Mason Mount

England manager Gareth Southgate speaking to Sky Sports: "I think over the last few days their talent has been outstanding. It was a very difficult game, all the players were hearing messages that this is meaningless and there was nothing to play for but they did play for it, there were big opportunities for young players but also for some older players.

"We're still trying to build and improve all the time. There was lovely football and it was good to watch and it was good for the young ones to get the goals - very special for them.

"The squad that we've had over the last three months is going to peak in the next three to five years and they'll get a lot more club experience and international experience. We'll invest the time in them. There are some very good senior professionals as well."

On the young players in the side: "We are still working on the balance of players for the system. There were excellent performances, especially for Jack Grealish, somebody so young. It's good balance to have an attacking-minded player in the position.

"It was also good to see Mason Mount in the central area again, he makes those forward runs. Our attacking play was very, very good. Bukayo Saka again showed his potential.

"If it's a headache about having good players in the side then that's a good one to have."

On Phil Foden: "Really, really pleased for him. He's such an exciting player. It was a big week for him to come back, it's not easy to walk through the door after the way he left previously but for us it was done.

"We know what he's capable of today and to get the two goals was a glimpse for everyone for what he is capable of."

  3. 'I didn't pick that team for confrontation'

    England 4-0 Iceland

    Gareth Southgate

England manager Gareth Southgate on BBC Radio 5 live: "The hunger to play and the application pleased me. It would have been easy tonight with nothing riding on the result, for the mentality not to be there and have a damp squib of a game.

"I said we have to make the most of the game. We are trying to build a team. We have been nowhere near having all of our squad together this autumn and the bedrock of the team all wanted to play. The captain wanted to play, he led that. We could surroud the young players with the stability of the experienced players.

"I have total ewmpathy with Premier League managers, this season is so complicated for everybody. We haven't picked that team for confrontation.

"We played our part by adapting our training, by rotating in the friendly, but we need to compete. We have to make use of every opportunity we have. We are behind France and Portugal and they play their big guns.

"I always hope that players feel the freedom to play as they do with their club and Phil Foden did that. We all make mistakes. It was important for him to feel a clean slate. He has relaxed through the week, playing with a smile on his face and tonight he came into the game. He has an eye for goal."

  4. Post update

    England 4-0 Iceland

Declan Rice speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live's John Murray: "The performance was solid, class, I thought from minute one to minute 90 we were structured, passed the ball very well and created loads of chances and thought it was thoroughly deserved."

On his first England goal: "I think it hit my shoulder."

Paolo Brand: Decent win by the Three Lions tonight. They’ve made progress this autumn, even if the whole isn’t quite yet the sum of its parts

Joe Baker: Foden, Grealish, Sterling, Rashford/Sancho and Kane could all be in the same starting 11 come the Euros. They won't be due to #Southgate and his obsession with a defensive back 3. Right group of talent, wrong manager

  6. 'We've been best mates since eight'

    England 4-0 Iceland

    Declan Rice

England midfielder Declan Rice on Sky Sports: "We've been best mates since we were eight years old, we've seen each other grow. When we knew we were starting tonight together it was special and to both score, our families will be bursting with pride.

"I thought I timed my run right for the goal but you never know now. When you see it hit the back of the net - I just wish there were fans in. It's special, you can't put it into words. I need to add goals to my game. The WhatsApp is going to be buzzing!"

Mason Mount: "Our families would have been here together definitely. They were here when I made my debut. We are making special memories together. It's great. For me to be on the pitch for his first goal means a lot - it came off his shoulder!

"I let him do the defensive side and linked up with the guys up front. The attack we had tonight was deadly."

Fletch Fletcher: how on earth are Kane and Grealish overrated. Kane had an off night but he's still world-class. And Grealish didn't get on the scoresheet but that doesn't mean he had a bad game.

Ryan Howard: Remember when everyone was calling for Rice and Mount to be dropped before the game? With players like them, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, Foden etc, the future's bright.

SMS Message: Foden, Sancho and Bellingham are the future for England. They make things happen from Chris, Nottingham

  8. 'Unbelievable feeling to score'

    FT: England 2-0 Iceland

    Phil Foden

Goalscorer Phil Foden on Sky Sports: "It's up there with one of the best games and it means a lot to me.

"I just couldn’t stop smiling after my goal, it’s an unbelievable feeling and I’m just going to try and enjoy it as much as I can.

"I know Jadon [Sancho] well enough, I played with him in the youth team and when I arrived in the box he gave me a good assist and luckily it went in.

"When you score your confidence is high but it’s something I need to work on - scoring more goals from outside the box."

On playing with Jack Grealish and Mason Mount: "It's brilliant, the top two young players in the Premier League and I’m just proud to be a part of it."

On being sent home from England duty in September: "It was one of the hardest moments of my life. That’s the time you need the trust of your manager and Gareth had a lot of respect for me and it means everything to me. I just wanted to repay him with goals and do well.

"I was just determined to come back and do the best I can. I was a little bit nervous at the start of this camp but I got used to it after a while."

  14. 'Good night all round'

    FT: England 4-0 Iceland

    Matthew Upson

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Cruise control for England tonight. They have done a very professional job and played well at times with real moments of skill. But on the whole they have generally been in control. England have done exactly what they needed to do and a good night all round.
