#MuseumFromHome: Celebrating Britain's amazing museums

Museum From Home is coming your way on Thursday 30 April. It is a whole day focused on the UK’s amazing museums, with lots to see and do across the BBC website, social media, and on TV and radio. Experts from across the sector will be popping up throughout the day to talk about the ideas, collections, activities and exhibitions that they love. Here is a selection of highlights.

Key moments to pop into your calendar:

• 10.30am: Freelance museum consultants Dan Vo and Sacha Coward welcome us to Museum From Home day. Cultural historian and TV presenter Dr Janina Ramirez is joined by Sonia Solicari, Director of the Museum of the Home, to discuss Stay Home, a new project about home life in lockdown. They want you to share your changing personal experiences during the coronavirus pandemic.
• 12.00pm: Physicist and TV presenter Helen Czerski is joined by experts from Royal Museums Greenwich to learn about how humans have communicated throughout history, including how we have communicated at a distance.
• 1pm: Dr Jamie Craggs FLS, Aquarium Curator at the Horniman Museum & Gardens, talks about a unique project he works on - breeding coral - and his daily trips to feed it.
• 2.30pm: We have a host of curatorial talent coming together.... Quonya Huff, Commercial and Audience Development Manager at National Mining Museum Scotland, talks about the history of the mining community based around the Lady Victoria Colliery at Newtongrange, near Edinburgh. Ben Paites, Collections and Learning Curator at Colchester Castle, shows us the Colchester Museums store. Alexia Clark, Documentation and Collections Officer at Stroud Museum in the Park, broadcasts from inside their collection store. Jess Turtle, co-founder of the Museum of Homelessness joins from the Homeless Taskforce, which is operating a food outreach hub in Islington and actively responding to the COVID crisis. And Florence Schechter, Director of the Vagina Museum, describes what it is like to start a museum from scratch - and then have to close it down.
• 4pm: Sir Ian Blatchford, Director of the Science Museum Group, will join to tell us more about how the Group has begun collecting objects on the nation’s behalf to document the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on science, culture and society for future generations. And, if that's not enough, Miranda Lowe, Principal Curator, Crustacea at the Natural History Museum is also going to log on!

Titanic Belfast is making its multi-media tour freely available for the next three months.

Enjoy being taken around the iconic Titanic Belfast building and through the Titanic Experience galleries from the comfort of your home, as you listen to fascinating facts and additional information exclusive to the guide.

The National Portrait Gallery's Cecil Beaton exhibition explores the extravagant world of the glamorous and stylish ‘Bright Young Things’ of the 1920s and '30s, seen through the eye of the renowned British photographer.

The show opened just a few days before lockdown. Now you can enjoy exclusive interviews with Curator Robin Muir, who brings to life this eccentric, glamorous and creative era of British cultural life.

A new virtual tour of the Imperial War Museum Duxford’s American Air Museum is being made available on 30th.

The site is home to the largest collection of American military aircraft outside of USA and this tour will give visitors a unique opportunity to explore the story of Anglo-American collaboration over the course of twentieth and twenty-first century conflict.
