  1. That's all folks

And that is your lot for this evening. The highest-ranked side in the world bow out, joining the world champions and the Euros holders.

Italy, though... well, they continue to look the part.

Join us tomorrow for... like you need me to tell you.

Kyle: I cannot wait for Italy vs Spain now. Two great sides who play different ways but brilliant attacking football. Hopefully it should be another thriller. This has been a fantastic tournament, one of the best international tournaments in recent years!

  4. How's it looking...

Kyle Utterson: Jeremy Doku was sensational tonight and had a very good tournament he might have earned himself a big money move to a big club. Brilliant performances from him. He was electric.

Andrew: How will history view this Belgian team? Number one in world rankings but no WC or European championship to show for their talents and an aging defence to revitalise now…

  6. Post update

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

All the talk of a golden generation, you have to think is this the end of an era?

We talk about how good Italy were but Belgium missed two great chances through Romelu Lukaku.

But they're out now, they've got to pick themselves up.

  7. 'We tried everything to win'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne: "I think we tried everything to win that match. They scored a fantastic goal, but the first one may have been a mistake on our part. They had more possession and the ball didn't go in for us, which is a shame. Getting eliminated is always a disappointment."

  8. Post update

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

Italy have reached the semi-finals of a major tournament (World Cup/Euros) for the 12th time.

The only European nation to do so more is Germany (20 times). They have progressed from each of their last four semi-finals.

    Good luck Spain.

  9. 'Spinazzola's injury a huge blow'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Alan Shearer

Former England striker on BBC One

Leonardo Spinazzola's injury is a huge, huge blow to the Italians. We have highlighted him before and after games on more than one occasion because of his energy.

He's up and down that left hand side and he gives so much to that Italian team both defensively as we saw him saving one off the line.

But numerous times during this tournament we have seen him at the other end, so his injury is a massive blow to the Italians.

  10. 'The victory is fully deserved'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

Italy coach Roberto Mancini: "I don’t think we suffered too much in any moment of the game. To beat a team like Belgium you need a great performance by everybody and this is exactly what happened today.

"We scored two and we could have scored more. I think the victory is fully deserved. Spain are next but the more you go forward the most difficult it becomes. Tonight, however, we just want to think about our performance and our victory."

Sho: This Italy side are just a proper team aren't they? No real superstars and seem to be getting better all the time.

  12. 'An extraordinary group'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma: "We won as a team, this is an extraordinary group. I still have to watch that save from De Bruyne back but we are here just to give our best and give Italians joy."

  13. 'We won all together tonight'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

Italy striker Lorenzo Insigne, who was given Uefa's 'Star of the Match': “I think every single player in the team played an incredible game tonight. I always try that shot, in games and in training. I’m happy it went in. It was a great goal but I repeat, we won all together tonight.”

  14. 'Italy will take some beating'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Micah Richards

Former England defender on BBC One

Italy are solid side. Good offensively an defensively. Great manager, great passion - everything. They will take some beating.

  15. 'Barella will dominate for years to come'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Jurgen Klinsmann

Former Germany head coach on BBC One

The ball ends up with Barella in the box, he is inventive and spontaneous in a certain way. He reads the little space around him well, makes two or three moves and then the way he finishes it with his right foot. Outstanding.

This is a player that will dominate for years to come in Italian football.

  16. 'A performance that had everything'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Alan Shearer

Former England striker on BBC One

Italy's performance had everything. They had quality going forward, they had to dig deep in midfield and then towards the last 20 minutes or so they had to defend for their life. They are brilliant at that. They did it superbly.

  17. 'Italy's attacking side was impressive'

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Jurgen Klinsmann

Former Germany head coach on BBC One

They can always rely on their strong defensive DNA. When it matters to defend a result it is very difficult to break down the Italians. They know how to waste a bit of time here and there.

What they showed from the attacking side was impressive. The combinations they played and the passing sequences. There was about a minute and thirty seconds where they had 25 to 30 passes and Belgium gave up and parked the bus for a minute.

  18. Post update

    FT: Belgium 1-2 Italy

    Chris Sutton

Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Italy have got something going for them. It'll be great a semi-final [against Spain] between two teams with contrasting styles.
