  1. That's all folks...

That's all from us for tonight. We'll leave you with the man of the moment, basking in his latest stunning rescue job...

    Cristiano Ronaldo
  2. 'We earned this victory with heart'

    FT: Juventus 1-0 Chelsea

Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli: "We had a great game today, it was a good battle. We earned this victory with heart.

"Now we must continue in this manner. We put in a little more than Chelsea because we believed in it.

"We have strong defenders, but it all depends on collective work. Even the two up front [Bernardeschi and Chiesa] helped a lot with the dirty work."

  3. 'We got punished for it'

    FT: Juventus 1-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

More from Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to BT Sport: "At this level you cannot concede an easy goal like this in the first seconds of the second half. When you know what's coming and you have defensive organisation like we have, normally it's always possible to defend it. We got punished for it."

Beth: Do you reckon Tuchel will get the same media bashing as Ole for his two losses?

  5. 'Could define the season'

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Villareal

    Manchester United

Former England and Man Utd midfielder Owen Hargreaves on BT Sport: "It was so important Man Utd got a result tonight.

"Their upcoming fixtures are tough but they will rise to the occasion in big games.

"The dressing room will be absolutely bouncing in there and moments like that can define a season."

  6. 'Utd rely too much on individuals'

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Villareal

    Manchester United

Former England and Man Utd striker Michael Owen speaking on BT Sport: "I think Man Utd rely a bit too much on individual brilliance and moments, like the goal from Alex Telles which was one of the great goals Old Trafford has seen in the last few years.

"In the last 10 minutes, it felt more like a team, they were much better.

"And when you've got Cristiano Ronaldo in your team, that's what he can give you."

Kyle Utterson: Great to see David De Gea back to his best. Manchester United need it with the amount of chances they keep giving away. At his best he is still one of the best keepers in the world. He just needs to keep up this consistency.

  8. 'We need to learn from this'

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Villarreal

Villarreal defender Pau Torres: "We're annoyed. The game was basically over, we just needed to see it out and we didn't. We need to learn from this. We were impeccable before that, taking the lead, creating chances, being better than Man Utd at Old Trafford.

"We held out until the final minute, we needed to know how to deal with this last minute better.

"Ronaldo is the kind of player who gets one chance and he takes it. That is what happened. We've shown we can be better than Atalanta and United over the two games.

"In the first-half we created a lot of chances and weren't good when it came to decision making. We need to improve and learn from that."

Imer Cardona: Very good win for all associated with United. However, 'paper' and 'cracks' come to mind, thanks to Ronaldo!

  10. 'Cristiano has an impact on everyone'

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Villarreal

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to BT Sport: "That is what happens at Old Trafford. It has happened so many times before. We had to throw caution to the wind and we got lucky in the end. They are a very hard team to play, a very hard team to beat,. It is a difficult one because we are at home we want to win. But if we don't go and press them they will be happy enough sitting off.

"Sometimes it is not about 'pass there, pass there', it is the crowd - and they have sucked it in before - and when you have Cristiano on the pitch you always have a chance. He is so good in front of goal and he has an impact on everyone.

"Jesse is unhappy at not playing more. But you come on an make an impact. That is what he did.

"It is massive for the players, to win a game in this fashion after we lost a game in Berne in that fashion. Every game is hard at this level. You see results you don't see very often, like yesterday. The margins are so small."

  11. 'We showed the Juve spirit'

    FT: Juventus 1-0 Chelsea

Juventus goalscorer Federico Chiesa to Amazon (via Uefa): "It was a difficult match because Chelsea put us there, they were very good with ball and we were forced to defend.

"But tonight we showed the Juve spirit, which is what the coach wants from us.

"We started with a formation, then the coach tried to change tactics in order to attack the spaces where Chelsea suffered tonight, where we were good at punishing them.

"It's a great challenge. It's great to play in this competition. Now we must enjoy the evening because we won, but we have the derby on Saturday, another very important match for us."

  12. Post update

    FT: Benfica 3-0 Barcelona

    Some damning stats...

Barcelona have lost their first two matches in a European campaign for the first time since the 1972-73 Uefa Cup, when they lost both legs to FC Porto and were eliminated.

Barca have suffered consecutive group stage defeats within the same Champions League season for the first time since 2000-01, when they lost to Besiktas and Milan in the first group stage.

Despite only taking charge of eight Champions League group stage matches as Barcelona manager, only Louis van Gaal (5 in 32 games) has lost more such matches with Barca than Ronald Koeman (3 in 8 games).

Barcelona have lost four of their last five Champions League matches (D1), as many as they lost in their previous 39 matches (W25 D10 L4).

Only one team has ever reached the Champions League knockout stages after losing their first two group stage matches with a goal difference of -6 or worse, as Barcelona have this season – Lyon in 2007-08, who reached the last 16.

  13. 'I'm not going to argue about the level of my team'

    FT: Benfica 3-0 Barcelona

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman: "It's tough to accept this result. I don't think the scoreline corresponds to the match we watched. Despite going behind quickly we played well until it went to 2-0.

"I'm not going to argue about the level of my team. There's no point in comparing this with Barcelona teams of years gone by. That's as clear as water. I can only give you my opinion of my work at the club - I feel backed by my players and their attitude.

"Benfica were strong physically and they're quick. I think that for the first and second goals we just had to defend much better. "We had really good scoring chances and that's how you change the direction of a match. The fact that Benfica put away the large majority of the few chances they actually created then that's the big difference between the two teams tonight".

  14. 'Sailors always find way out of storm'

    FT: Juventus 1-0 Chelsea

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri to Amazon: "Sailors always find the way out of a storm.

"Tonight was a good game against the European champions. Technically we could have played better but we suffered a bit and we missed a couple of counter-attacks.

"Two games, six points, zero goals conceded, another step towards qualification, a good step forward."

  15. Post update

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Villarreal

    Shamoon Hafez

    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Almost half an hour after the final whistle sounded at Old Trafford and fans were still inside the stadium in their hundreds.

"Viva Ronaldo" got a good airing as did chants for the manager, namely the one pleading "please don't take my Solskjaer away".

  16. 'Solskjaer's substitutions changed the game'

    Man Utd 2-1 Villarreal

    Clinton Morrison

Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

You have to credit Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The substitutions he made changed the game and put United on the front foot.

I was surprised by the Pogba substitution, but I thought Matic came on and controlled the midfield.

Chris Mitchell: Incredible from Ronaldo. But we are used to his fairytale scripts. However, what a touch from Jesse Lingard - a player who deserves so much credit for taking time at West Ham and coming back a better player. So many others should follow his lead.

  18. 'Strikers have that feeling to score'

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Villarreal

    Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, speaking to BT Sport: "It is always difficult to play against Spanish teams. They are good on the ball and we know that coach is here in England already. They played good football and were organised in defence. But I think we do a good job. Sometimes we have to be patient and not press all the time. The main thing was the three points.

"I always had the feeling we could win the game. And when they scored I felt we could come again and turn it around. After the goal of Alex [Telles] the push from the fans was unbelievable. Some amazing saves from David [De Gea] to keep the score at 1-1. Then at the end... strikers have that feeling to score and Cristiano helps us again.

"We finished with two strikers and we know any ball in the box they will be alive to it. We know they can score at any moment and that is why we continue with crosses. We are happy with three points."

  20. 'We were not good enough. I don't know why'

    FT: Juventus 1-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to BT Sport: "I think we started not sharp enough. The first 12 to 15 minutes we could have harmed them much more. There was so much space for dangerous balls into the box and ask more questions.

"We struggled to create our own rhythm and intensity because they were so deep and passive. We were lacking runs. We were so good in training yesterday and not good enough, not free enough today. I don't know why.

"I felt we were a bit slow and tired, mentally slow, decision making. That's why it's a strange one to analyse."
