John Prescott has given the Metropolitan police a week to tell him whether his voicemail was hacked by the News of the World.
If information is not provided, he warned he would be seek a judicial review into the case.
The former deputy prime minister told the Today programme that information was "clearly available" to the Met.
"The only way the truth can come out...is to have it properly investigated," he told John Humphrys.
