  7. New Police and Crime Commissioner will appoint deputy

    The newly elected Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones says he will appoint a deputy.

    Conservative Marc Jones beat off UKIP's Victoria Ayling in a second-round battle with a total of 48,033 votes.

    Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire he said he had been advised by other PCCs across the country.

    He added: "I've travelled and spoken to PCCs across the UK and the ones who have appointed a deputy say it's the best thing they have done.

    "It won't be a full time role, but a support for me, they will oversee rural crime and engage with communities."

    A deputy is expected to be announced in the next few days.

    Boston United manager Dennis Greene has been awarded the Vanarama National League's manager of the month award for April.

    During that time the Pilgrims reached the National League play-offs and beat North Ferriby United in the first leg on Wednesday 2-0.

  9. Masterchef finalist educated in Grantham

    The latest series of Masterchef is coming to the boil. 

    The final three contestants will battle it out over some hot stoves tonight, with one set to become the 12th Masterchef Champion.

  10. Outgoing Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Hardwick congratulates successor

    Alan Hardwick has congratulated his successor, Marc Jones, after he was voted in as Police and Crime Commissioner earlier today.

    The Conservative candidate beat off UKIP's Victoria Ayling in a second-round battle with a total of 48,033 votes.  

    Mr Hardwick, who was voted in four years ago, said he wished Mr Jones the very best for the future.

    "It's a big job and I wish the new Commissioner the very best for the future. Lincolnshire Police is a force that, nationally and locally, punches well above its weight," said Mr Hardwick.

    "I have no doubt that, with a strong and determined PCC to continue the campaign for fairer funding, the county will continue to be a safe place in which to live and work."

  11. New Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones: Role will take 'hard work'

    Marc Jones says he's very pleased to have been elected as the new Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

    The Conservative candidate beat off UKIP's Victoria Ayling in a second-round battle with a total of 48,033 votes.

    Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire, he said he was under no illusion the hard work put into the campaign would be anything like the hard work he's going to have to put in to perform to the best of his abilities in the role.

    Mr Jones said his biggest challenge would be to fully understand the different aspects of the role.

    He said: "There's certain information as a candidate you're not privy to, so it will be a huge learning curve to fully understand what needs to be done.

    "With regard to funding, I've already had meetings with the Home Office and the Prime Minister to make sure I get a fair formula for Lincolnshire."

    Conservative candidate Marc Jones has been elected as Lincolnshire's new Police and Crime Commissioner.

    He beat off UKIP's Victoria Ayling in a second-round battle with a total of 48,033 votes compared to Ayling's 37,420.

    Turnout was just over 20%, compared to 15% four years ago when Alan Hardwick was voted in.

  14. No rural schools will be forced to become Academies

    The government has made a major concession in its plans to make all schools in England become academies. 

    Schools judged to be outstanding by Ofsted inspectors will no longer be compelled to take academy status - and no small rural school will be forced to join a Multi-Academy Trust. 

    Last month, Lincolnshire County Councillor Patricia Bradwell wrote to the Education Secretary questioning the policy.
