  4. Ibe pulls out of England U21 squad

    Liverpool's Jordon Ibe has withdrawn from the England Under-20s squad due to a recurring knee injury, the Football Association has announced.

    The 19-year-old has been one of few bright points in a frustrating season at Anfield, and was last week rewarded with a new and improved five-year contract.

    A good run of form saw the winger included in the England squad heading to the Toulon Tournament this summer.

    University of Liverpool poet and lecturer Dr Sandeep Parmar has been named as this year's BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinker.

    Dr Parmar was selected from hundreds of academics to take part in the annual project, which sees academics share ideas through radio and television.

  7. Cliff-fall man airlifted to hospital

    A man was winched to hospital in a helicopter after he slipped from cliffs and fell into the sea in Wirral.

    Two RNLI lifeboats from West Kirby and Hoylake helped pull the man to safety after he slipped from cliffs on Middle Eye, near Hilbre Island, on Monday.

    The man, aged in his thirties, had suffered a back injury and was taken to Aintree Hospital.

  9. Photography greats exhibited in Kirkby

    Images by some of the most important photographers of the 20th Century - including Bert Hardy, Martin Parr and Tom Wood - will go on display in Kirby Gallery as part of the LOOK 15 photography festival.

  10. Care homes rated good in latest report

    Seven care homes in Merseyside and Cheshire have been rated as "good" by the Care Quality Commission in the latest published reports into the quality of care provided by adult social care services across the North.

    Homes in Sefton, St. Helens, Warrington and Wirral all received the rating.

    All of England's adult social care services are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

    The controversial Reds striker, whose future at the club is yet to be decided, is pictured wearing chains in front of what appears to be Wembley stadium, with the accompanying message reading: "Thanks to Liverpool fans for this year .... I'm loading for next season. #beast".

    Les Brown has emailed us about the Red Arrows fly-past during the Three Queens event yesterday - sadly, he wasn't too impressed with their brief appearance.

  14. Police appeal over missing man

    Police are trying to find 29-year-old Paul Gardner, who was last seen on Monday at about 14:00 on Warrington Road near to Rainhill railway station.

    Paul is described as white, of large build and around 5ft 9in tall with short shaven dark hair. He has links to Crosby and Rainhill.

  17. Gang jailed over Toblerone theft

    A Liverpool gang which targeted lorries in Kent, stealing £200,000 worth of Toblerone from one and £23,000 worth of whiskey from another, have been jailed.

    The six men carried out the thefts in Dover in April 2013. They were sentenced to between four years and four years eight months in prison each at Maidstone Crown Court earlier.

    Janet Scarth says: "It was brilliant. Never seen so many people in Liverpool. Didn't go for the train till about 6pm all was great just walked onto the station and away we went. Well worth staying around for longer."

    The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre will open a unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 2018.

    Today, people can give their views at the Transforming Cancer Care event at the Wirral postgraduate centre on the Clatterbridge Health Park.
