    BBC Local Live

The match between Northamptonshire and Essex was declared a draw after play was abandoned due to rain.

Northamptonshire's cricketers lost an early wicket to fall 75-5 before the bad weather hit on the final morning.

It means Northants get 11 points from the game.

  5. Farage: I listen to people I don't agree with like Cameron and Mandelson

UKIP leader Nigel Farage has told me he didn't think protestors in Northampton Market Square would have been happy to listen to him.

He had been planning to give a pro-Brexit speech, but it had to be cancelled.

    Anti-UKIP protest

Mr Farage said he doesn't agree with people like David Cameron and Peter Mandelson, but he still listens to what they have to say.

The protest earlier, which involved about 30 people, had been pretty rowdy but there was no violence.

They told me they were not stopping Mr Farage from coming, but there wasn't a big police presence so you can see why there was a concern the situation could have escalated.

  6. Nigel Farage says he 'probably couldn't' have engaged with protestors

    Sam Read

    BBC Radio Northampton politics reporter

I've been to speak to UKIP leader Nigel Farage, after a planned speech from a bus was cancelled following protests in Northampton's Market Square.

Police speak to people at anti-UKIP protest

It is not clear if Mr Farage or his supporters called the event off, or if it was down to the police. The police press office has not yet returned our call on the matter.

Talking at the Red Lion in Blisworth, I asked Mr Farage if he could have engaged with the protestors, but he told me: "Probably not. They weren't the kind of people you can engage with."

Unfortunately, it's unlikely to get much better soon...

  9. Farage heads for pub after visit cancelled

    Mariam Issimdar

    BBC Local Live

As we told you a short while ago Nigel Farage has had to cancel a planned bus visit to Northampton town centre because of protestors.

    Protestors

Protesters and Leave supporters argued in the street as they waited for the UKIP leader to arrive.

Mr Farage was diverted and so never actually attended. He is understood to be visiting a pub in a nearby village.

  10. ‘I wish I could make this not true’: family tributes to man who died after nightclub fall

"A lovely big brother, a wonderful uncle and loving son".

  11. Anti-Farage protestors wore Anonymous masks

    Craig Lewis

    BBC News

I was at the anti-UKIP protest in Northampton's Market Square today, where a group of campaigners waved a banner, wore Anonymous masks and sang songs against the party.

One protestor had a megaphone to address the crowd, which included a number of Brexit campaigners and UKIP supporters.

The situation was far from out of control, but there was a police presence as members of the two camps argued among themselves.

  12. Farage speech cancelled due to protestors

The UKIP leader was due to give a speech from a bus in the town in support of the leave EU campaign.

Earlier today a Labour activist in Birmingham challenged Mr Farage over his attendance record at the European Parliament and accused him of blaming immigrants for the mistakes of bankers during an otherwise well-received walk through a market.

  13. Cricket: Still raining at Wantage Road

    Alex Winter

    BBC Radio Northampton sport

It's a grim scene at Wantage Road, with heavy rain continuing to prevent play on the final day between Northamptonshire and Essex.

The home side won't mind - they only have five second-innings wickets left and are still 121 runs behind. The weather could yet help them escape with a draw.
