York City midfielder James Berrett has joined League Two side Grimsby Town.

The 27-year-old signed for the Minstermen last summer and made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals. 

A statement on York City's website says: "The club would like to thank James for his efforts during his solitary campaign at Bootham Crescent and wish him well for the future."

People living in Harrogate have raised thousands to help chemotherapy patients in the area. 

Their fundraising efforts mean Harrogate District Hospital has been able to install a second piece of equipment in the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.

As we prepare to commemorate tomorrow's 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, I spent last weekend at Albert in northern France where preparations were under way for this week's events. 

Here's the story of my personal journey to the grave of someone who had the same surname as myself:

People with Coeliac Disease can get prescriptions for bread, flour and cereals to help them with their diet.

But healthcare groups in Harrogate, Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby want to get rid of the prescriptions because they say it's costing too much money.

However, pregnant women and disadvantaged children would still get them under the new plans.

If you have to buy gluten free products you'll know that they often cost three times the price of regular food in shops.   

The public is to be asked what they think about the plans.

A North Yorkshire man who harassed his neighbour for years has been prevented from returning to his home.

Kenneth Ward, 68, was jailed for five years in 2011 after admitting exposure, harassment and firearms offences. He is due to be released from prison in a matter of days. 

Changes to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order made today at Teesside Crown Court mean he is not allowed to go back to the house he lived in before being jailed.

York City Knights will "give it a good go" when they travel to Toulouse at the weekend, coach James Ford has told BBC Radio York.

Ford says the match between the top two sides in League One has the potential to be a great match.

"They're a very attacking team and they play on the front foot. But they do give teams opportunities because they do make errors," says Ford.

"So, we just need to go there with a plan, execute it as well as we can and put pressure on them. We'll have a good go, that's for sure."

CCTV images have been issued of two men police want to speak to in relation to an arson attack in Ripon last year.

The fire was started at about 09:30 on 5 December at Fisher Court, a multi-occupancy property.

The blaze "could have harmed a number of people", according to North Yorkshire Police.

A 20-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released without charge.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact police.

Ripon Cathedral is one of three Yorkshire cathedrals preparing to mark perhaps the darkest day of the First World War.

A single bell toll will strike for five minutes at 07:30 tomorrow morning, marking 100 years since the start of the Battle of the Somme.

Bradford and Wakefield Cathedrais will join Ripon, along with over 50 churches from across the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales to remember those who lost their lives in the bloodiest battle of the First World War.

Plans to build over 10,000 houses in and around York are due to be discussed by City of York councillors tonight.

The Local Plan, drawn up by the Conservative and Liberal Democrat-run council, has identified land to build the new homes by 2037.  

Areas including Elvington, Haxby and Wiggington are all earmarked for development.

The council has also earmarked land for economic development.

Tadcaster Albion manager Billy Miller has praised the impact of the senior members of his squad as his side get ready for life in Evo-Stik Division One North.

Albion won promotion last season with a squad containing players of the calibre of Champions League winner Jonathan Greening and former Premier League striker Richard Cresswell.

Miller has told BBC Radio York: "Having those people around is a great boost. It means we've got real links into the pro game.

"Having Jonathan around on the pitch is a very calming influence and he's great in the dressing room."

The 100th French Open got under way this morning, with York golfer Simon Dyson teeing off at 07:00 this morning.
