People living in Barrow will have to pay more for many council services after Barrow Borough Council agreed a budget including £2.3m of savings.

Councillors have also decided to ask other groups to take over the running of The Forum entertainments venue, the Park Leisure Centre and the town's dog kennels in a bid to save some of the money. 

The council says that the budget strategy that runs up to 2020 is the "best [it] could do" in the face of another reduction in the grant it gets from central government.

Motorists are reporting delays of up to three hours on the A590 in South Cumbria.

There's not much time left for Cumbrian firms to get hundreds of thousands of pounds in funding to grow their business.

The Cumbria Growth Fund is a pot of money from the government for manufacturing businesses that want to invest in projects which will create or project jobs.

There's £400,000 left in the fund after a significant level of demand from Cumbria's firms.

The Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, which manages the scheme, says the rest of the money is likely to go soon and is encouraging businesses to contact them for more information.

Police say that the A66 has been reopened eastbound between Brough and Bowes following a fatal crash earlier this morning.

The man who died was driving an Audi A4 which was involved in a collision with a lorry near the Stainmore Cafe at 05:22.

The driver of the HGV was not injured.

It's the first time that Simon Lawson from Maryport has competed at a Paralympic games in Rio.

Simon won silver in the Great North Half Marathon and will be competing in the T54 Marathon on the final day of the games.

The chairman of a group representing people living in flood risk areas of Carlisle says that it's time to make changes to the body that currently manages flooding in England.

Dr Stephen Gibbs from the Carlisle Flood Action Group was speaking after the publication of the National Flood Resilience Review which recommends spending more money on temporary flood defences and combining Met Office rain forecasts with Environment Agency flood models for the first time.

Here are the main points from today's government report after last winter's flooding:

• £12.5m investment for new temporary defences stationed around England.
• A commitment from utility companies to increase flood protection of their key local infrastructure, such as phone networks and water treatment works.
• Improvements to information sharing between the government and utility companies.
• A new stress test of the risk of flooding from rivers and the sea in England.

• Met Office forecasts of extreme rainfall scenarios will be linked with Environment Agency modelling for the first time to provide a new assessment of flood risk.
• £750,000 investment for Fire and Rescue Services and other groups to maintain flood rescue teams.
• Pilot scheme to design innovative flood defences for Sheffield - with plans to roll out similar schemes in other cities.
• Surface water flooding to be officially recognised as a separate risk from coastal and river flooding.

The slip roads taking people on and off the M6 Northbound at J36 for Kirkby Lonsdale are now clear.

• A Cumbrian MP has written to the Prime Minister to urge her to support plans for nuclear power stations at Hinkley Point in Somerset and Moorside near Sellafield.

A pair of broken down vehicles are affecting traffic at the Kemplay Bank roundabout for the A66 and A686 at Penrith.

It's also affecting traffic from Appleby heading towards Penrith.

The cost of county councillors in Cumbria is to rise from next year.

A national review of the winter floods says that £12.5m will be spent on new temporary flood defences that can be moved around the country in case of flooding. 

The review was commissioned after 16,000 houses in Cumbria and Yorkshire were flooded during the wettest December in a century last year.  

The investment would mean the Environment Agency would have four times as many temporary flood barriers than in 2015.
