  2. John Lennon letter found at car boot sale

    John Lennon's letter

A letter John Lennon wrote to the Queen explaining why he was returning his MBE has been found at a car boot sale

It was found tucked in a record sleeve and has now been valued at about £60,000.

One expert believes the text is a draft of the letter Lennon eventually sent, possibly because the ink was smudged.

The final letter which he sent remains in the Royal archives.

Lennon returned the MBE in protest, which he explained in the letter:

Quote Message: I am returning this MBE in protest against Britain's involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam and against Cold Turkey slipping down the charts.

  5. Dr Luke denies more Kesha abuse claims

    Kesha and Dr Luke
Image caption: Dr Luke has also worked with One Direction, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna

Kesha has given a very long interview with the New York Times magazine which has led to new claims against Dr Luke.

A legal battle has been going on between Dr Luke and Kesha since November 2014 when she asked to be released from her record contract claiming he had abused her. Something the music producer has always denied.

In the new article Kesha said she was "under immense pressure to starve" herself when she worked with Dr Luke and she "tried to and almost killed" herself in the process.

She also claimed she was pressured to dumb down her music.

Speaking about her debut single Tik Tok, she said: "I remember specifically him saying 'make it more dumb, make it more stupid, make it more simple - just dumb'."

In statements made through his representatives, Dr Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, said he was not responsible for Kesha "starving" herself.

He denied he had created an image for Kesha outside the one she originally crafted for herself; that he had pressured her to put only party songs on Animal or that he had emotionally abused her in any way.

Quote Message: The New York Times Magazine profile piece that ran today unfortunately has many inaccuracies. This article is part of a continuing coordinated press campaign by Kesha to mislead the public, mischaracterise what has transpired over the last two years, and gain unwarranted sympathy.

The writer of the article Taffy Brodesser-Akner got to hear some of Kesha's new songs and said one called Rainbow, recorded with musician Ben Folds, stood out.

Quote Message: If it ever emerges from private listenings, it will be your favorite Kesha song. It’s big and sweeping, and you can hear every instrument that Ben Folds and his associates played — it does recall a Beach Boys vibe, just as she wanted it to... The way she sings the song is so rich and so real that it jerks you out of your expectation of a pop song... In the final section, her voice becomes stronger and more strained, and the effect is devastating.

  8. Michael Ball and Alfie Boe talk Wham and Woolworths

    Mark Savage

    Music reporter

    Michael Ball, Alfie Boe

Tenors Michael Ball and Alfie Boe have recorded an album of songs from the stage and screen - but they confess they'd rather be staging a Wham! tribute act.

Friends for ten years, the singers were full of banter when they were interviewed by our reporter Mark Savage.

They teased each other relentlessly as they discuss their upcoming tour, the greatest hits of Wham! and their role in the demise of Woolworths.

While also discussing more seriously how they have turned classic songs into duets for two men.

Quote Message: We took a really famous song, like Music Of The Night from Phantom. Alf has done a version of it, I've done a version of it, so the only way of doing this is to actually restructure it and rewrite it - to use counter-harmonies and melodies that are unexpected.

  10. Syd Barrett to be honoured in Cambridge

    Jodie Halford

    BBC News

    Syd Barrett

An artwork commemorating Pink Floyd legend Syd Barrett is being unveiled in his home city of Cambridge today following years of campaigning by fans for a permanent memorial.

As a principal songwriter and creative force in the early days, he sang and played guitar but he left the band just as it was taking off as his drug use and mental health issues resulted in increasingly erratic behaviour.

He became a solo artist, releasing two albums but returned to live in Cambridge as a semi-recluse and died from cancer ten years ago

The commemorative artwork will be installed in the foyer of the Cambridge Corn Exchange, the venue where Barrett played his last ever live gig.

  11. Bruno Mars says Adele was a 'diva' in the studio

    Bruno Mars, Adele

Bruno Mars has revealed he thought Adele was a bit of a "diva" when he first went into the studio to work with her.

They collaborated on the song All I Ask on Adele's record breaking album 25.

But Mars told 103.5 KTU's Cubby & Carolina Bermudez in the Morning radio show it wasn't plain sailing to start with.

Quote Message: She walks into the studio she's got all this attitude, she's a diva, she's like, 'I don't want to do this. I don't like that.....' And then as soon as we hit a couple of chords that she liked, we started rolling, and that's where we got that song from.

And he said he was in awe of her voice in the studio.

Quote Message: She's incredible. There was a moment when she was singing in the booth and I'm not exaggerating at all and the water was vibrating...like you know that scene in Jurassic Park..... She's got some pipes on her, and she's just a superstar.

But he's still waiting for a call from Adele to ask him to perform the song with her.

  13. UK venues 'must take terror training'

    Chi Chi Izundu

    Entertainment Reporter

    Gig venue

A private security expert has called for licensing laws to be changed to force entertainment venues around the UK to undergo counter-terror training.

Baroness Ruth Henig told the Victoria Derbyshire programme that some venues did not take such training "seriously".

She said there are some "who don't co-operate, who don't take up the offers that are made to them and where I think there are some concerns."

Baroness Henig is the former chair of the Security Industry Authority and she now plans to table an amendment to the 2003 licensing act, to include counter-terror training.

She also said that "the public should ask questions" about security when they go to venues.

His picture was removed from the campaign on Wednesday night and the union apologised.

Quote Message: We would like to unreservedly apologise for any offence or upset that was caused by this post. In the planning stages of Black History Month, we worked with students to develop a campaign that celebrated a range of ethnic cultures. However we can see that many of our students disagree with the direction the campaign took. We made a mistake. The officers will be meeting with the African-Caribbean Society this morning to apologise and discuss where we go from here. BBC Newsbeat

    Josh Franceschi

Josh Franceschi, the singer with Surrey rockers You Me At Six, is so fed up of secondary ticketing, he personally sold tickets to a recent show to fans.

Speaking to Newsbeat, Josh said: "We're playing a very intimate show at Dingwalls in London and we've already seen tickets on websites for triple the amount they were supposed to be."

Whilst Josh would freely admit this is not practical when it comes to a national tour, he's given his backing to an MP's plan to criminalise botnets - the software which buys up tickets online to then be resold for a profit.

"Everyone should be able to have the same chance to buy tickets at the price they were intended to," he said.
