Arctic convoy veterans: 'Thank you for your bravery'

World War II veterans from Hull and East Yorkshire who transported vital supplies in dangerous conditions from Britain to the former Soviet Union are being honoured today.
It's as a thank you from the Russian president for risking their lives in the Arctic convoys during World War Two.
Veterans and their families are being presented with the Russian 'Ushakov Medal', which recognises bravery and courage:

There are only five veterans still here to receive them.
One of then is 91 year-old Fred Moore. He was 18 when he participated in the Artic Convoy.
Today he received a thank you for his efforts.
The ceremony's being hosted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The band, MP-Four, which includes the East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight and former Brigg and Goole MP Ian Cawsey, are supporting a charity version of The Rolling Stones song in aid of a charity in the name of the murdered Yorkshire MP Jo Cox.
They are hoping to hit the top spot in the charts with a Christmas Number One.

Lorry driver jailed for bringing £5m drugs into Killingholme

A Slovakian lorry driver who used his truck to bring in more than £5m worth of cocaine and heroin into the UK at Killingholme has been jailed.
Pavol Cizmar, who's 45 years old, was stopped by Border Force officers at Killingholme terminal in June as he drove off a ferry from Holland.
His lorry was searched and in the trailer between rolls of paper they found two rucksacks containing 40kg of cocaine and 5kg of heroin.
A stun gun and CS gas spray were also discovered.
At Grimsby Crown Court today he was found guilty of drug offences and jailed for 11 years and four months.

Poppy Widdison: Accused 'never saw anyone give her drugs'

A man on trial for child cruelty after the death of four-year-old Poppy Widdison has said he never saw anyone giving her drugs.
Poppy died in hospital June 2013 and was found with traces of a number of drugs in her system.
Her mother and her former partner John Rytting have pleaded guilty to child cruelty but deny other charges of mistreating the child and drug offences.

Hull New Theatre reaches the half way mark

The topping out ceremony for Hull New Theatre is taking place today.
That's when builders lay the final beam (or equivalent) at the top of a structure during its construction.
Christmas lights will be switched on on the tower crane being used to construct a new 27m tall tower.
The theatre is due to re-open next summer.
