Scottish and Southern Energy has said after Storm Doris hit today it had 7,000 homes without power in the Oxfordshire area, but this is now down to about 3,000 in the West Oxfordshire area.

Our reporter in Squitchey Lane in north Oxford snapped this fallen tree, which also appears to have brought down a lower cable.

Park End Street in the centre of Oxford has now reopened, a bit earlier than expected, after the police and fire services made the roof of a building safe.

There were reports of a partial collapse following high winds from Storm Doris.

Susan Ellis sent us this picture from Banbury and said: "The cardboard blew across the main road from the church side straight into car windows and bumpers.  

"This almost caused a crash due to sudden stopping and swerving out of the way.  

"The cardboard blew from there over to the cinema side and by the Whately Hall Hotel."

Firefighters and police are working to make roof tiles safe in Park End Street in Oxford, the fire service has said.

Fire crews used a hydraulic platform to gain access to the roof after the police closed the road.

They have so far taken down over 10 tiles and will shortly be handing the incident back to the owner once safe to do so.

The road will remained closed for at least the next hour.

Firefighters have been dealing with more than 40 fallen trees or large fallen branches across the county. 

A spokesman said the worst of the weather hit the west of Oxfordshire, but there have not been any major or life threatening incidents.

Sandy Lane in Yarnton had previously been closed due to a fallen tree but it has now re-opened.

Met Office weather warnings for high winds in Oxfordshire are set to remain in place until 20:00 this evening.

Thanks to a group of motorists' can-do attitude, a tree which closed a road near Tackley, has been opened again in minutes.

West Oxfordshire District Council has approved £25,000 funding to campaign against proposals to create one council covering the whole county.

The money will finance a social media campaign and online survey, a letter to residents and signs across the district.

Council leader James Mills said: “This is not a programme of this council’s making but when it is so clear how our residents feel, I believe we must relay the other side of the story.”

He added that the county council is spending £200,000 on its campaign and said he had made it clear to them that he believed there are "better things to spend the money on".
