In pictures: Funeral of PC Nicola Hughes
Thousands of police officers and members of the public lined a street in central Manchester for the funeral of PC Nicola Hughes, who was shot dead on duty on 18 September.
Greater Manchester Police Federation, which represents rank and file officers, called on the people of Greater Manchester to stand shoulder to shoulder with the police.
Just over two weeks ago PC Hughes and her colleague PC Fiona Bone were killed on duty answering what they thought was a routine call.
Family, friends and colleagues of PC Hughes were inside the cathedral, while the service was also broadcast on a screen in Cathedral Gardens for hundreds of people gathered outside.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy said: "She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. We will never forget her great sacrifice."
More than 100 officers from across the country volunteered to travel to Manchester to support colleagues and help police the funerals.
Police chiefs said they had been overwhelmed and heartened by the public support, with more than 25,000 messages of condolence on its website, 19,000 via Facebook and another 1,000 on Twitter.
The funeral takes place on Thursday at Manchester Cathedral of PC Fiona Bone.
