  4. Your thoughts: Boat-attacking swan

The story about calls for a swan to be removed from Needham Lake, because he has caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to boats owned by members of the Gipping Valley Model Boat Club, has attracted a number of comments on our Facebook page:

    • Leah Mac McIlrea writes: How about remove the boats from the swans habitat!
    • Louise Latimer says:  'Moved on'?? How about during the nesting season people keep their daft boats out of his way? Unlike most people swans mate for life. He is protecting his mate and his babies. Shame more humans don't take their role this seriously. Leave him alone. Why must humans control everything - he has as much right, no actually more right, to be on a stretch of water as humans do.

Neil Hodson, secretary of the Gipping Valley Model Boat Club, said: "It remains to be seen whether he's a danger to the public. He doesn't tend to attack people unless they're getting too close to his cygnets.

"Personally I think he's got as much right to the lake as we have.

"A lot of our members would like to see him moved on and I think if he does get as far as attacking any people, then he would need to be moved on."
